Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden will kick off its roster of 2013 events on January 12 with a concert by the Vincent Ruggieri Jazz Quartet and an exhibition of the work of two unique artists from the Snug Harbor Artist Residency Program (SHARP). The jazz concert, the first in the Island Sounds Music Mash-Up series will be from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Main Hall, Building C. The SHARP exhibition will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art in Building G. Refreshments will be served. Admission to both events is free. A ideia de converter em Cidade das Artes o projeto original surgiu de uma conversa entre o Prefeito Eduardo Paes e o presidente da Fundação Cidade das Artes e ex-Secretário Municipal de Cultura, Emílio Kalil. Grand Central Terminal turns 100 in 2013 and the celebration is starting the party early with the 11th annual Holiday Train Show! In a brand new layout by Lionel, model Metro-North and New York Central trains depart from a miniature Grand Central on their way North on a 34' long, two-level "O" gauge layout. Vintage model trains from the Museum's collection are on display joined by stunning New York Central railroad posters harkening back to Grand Central's heyday as the nexus of long distance and commuter train travel. Socrates Sculpture Park was an abandoned riverside landfill and illegal dumpsite until 1986 when a coalition of artists and community members, under the leadership of artist Mark di Suvero, transformed it into an open studio and exhibition space for artists and a neighborhood park for local residents. Today it is an internationally renowned outdoor museum and artist residency program that also serves as a vital New York City park offering a wide variety of public services.

O Observatório iniciou suas atividades no ano de 2001, como projeto de Extensão da Faculdade de Educação da UFF. Nossas principais preocupações de estudo, pesquisa e extensão estão relacionadas com as transformações da condição juvenil na história, as situações de vida dos jovens na contemporaneidade e suas mobilizações sociais, culturais e políticas.. Nosso grupo se organiza em torno de duas linhas de pesquisa: a) Juventude e processos educativos e b) Juventude e culturas da participação. O Observatório Jovem do Rio de Janeiro é cadastrado no diretório de grupos de pesquisa do CNPq e também está presente no Conselho Nacional de Juventude juntamente com o Observatório da Juventude da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG).

Referência no município e um dos mais importantes do estado do Rio de Janeiro, tendo sediado diversas competições nacionais e internacionais, como a Copa do Mundo de Judô para Deficientes Visuais, em 2001; o Grand Prix de Atletismo, a Copa do Mundo de Natação e a Copa do Mundo de Ginástica, todos em 2004; e os Jogos Mundiais em cadeira de Rodas & Amputados, em setembro de 2005.
Ocupando uma área de 64 mil metros quadrados, o complexo tem capacidade para abrigar 3.835 espectadores no ginásio e 1.953 no estádio.
Entre outros destaques, possui um Ginásio Esportivo que leva o nome do grande jogador de basquetebol, Algodão, nascido em Campo Grande, e um dos maiores jogadores do esporte de todos os tempos no país, campeão mundial ao lado de outros grandes craques como Rosa Branca, Jatir e Wlamir Marques.

”O Monumento aos Mortos da Segunda Grande Guerra Mundial, também conhecido como Monumento aos Pracinhas, localiza-se no Aterro do Flamengo, no centro da cidade do Rio de Janeiro. O monumento foi inaugurado em 1960 para abrigar os restos mortais dos soldados brasileiros mortos na Segunda Guerra que, até então, estavam depositados no cemitério de Pistóia, na Itália. Como pode ser visto neste vídeo, o conjunto é integrado por três obras de arte: uma escultura de metal homenageando a Força Aérea Brasileira. Outra de granito, homenageando os soldados das três armas e um painel de azulejo em homenagem aos mortos no mar. Detalhe: a plataforma que se eleva a 31 metros de altura empregou, pela primeira vez no Brasil, o concreto aparente.”

A Floresta da Tijuca foi reflorestada no século XIX após anos de desmatamento intenso e plantio, principalmente de café. O reflorestamento foi uma iniciativa pioneira em toda a América Latina.
A Floresta da Tijuca possui recantos e atrativos históricos que merecem ser visitados, como: a Cascatinha, a Capela Mayrink, o Mirante Excelsior, o Barracão, a Gruta Paulo e Virgínia, o Lago das Fadas, a Vista Chinesa e o Açude da Solidão, pontos freqüentados por famílias inteiras nos fins de semana.

A 230 metros de altura, no morro do Pico, com entrada pelo Forte Barão do Rio Branco, estão plantadas as ruínas do conjunto arquitetônico que, no século XVIII, abrigou as fortificações do Pico ou São Luiz.

Projetado inicialmente pelo paisagista inglês John Tyndale em 1840 ao gosto dos jardins românticos, foi parcialmente reformulado, nas décadas de 1920-30 e 1930-40, principalmente o trecho à direita, quando seu proprietário, o industrial Henrique Lage, mandou edificar nova residência, em substituição à que fora de seu pai, Antônio Martins Lage.
