Since 1989 when Dialogica opened its first gallery in SoHo, New York, this modern and original furniture collection has earned the respect of designers and architects as well as received a enthusiastic reception from the press and public for its design excellence and innovation. In the same year, the company opened its own furniture manufacturing atelier. Dialogica's design and artistic direction is by Monique and Sergio Savarese. In August 1893, John Willis, Jr. opened his first furniture store on Church Street, opposite St. Paul's church in downtown Norfolk. In 1901, he moved to the comer of Main and Church Streets in Norfolk in the Purcell Building that had been a hotel at one time. In 1912, he was the first occupant of the Mastin Building, later to become Smith and Welton Department Store.

When Beth Colosimo was growing up in Salt Lake City, Utah, there was always a room or two in her parents’ home where she and her friends were not allowed to go. She remembers going to her Grandma’s home where the lampshades were covered in plastic and the sofas were covered in sheets. Sitting on the furniture or even going in those rooms was almost forbidden. Beth always wondered what the purpose was of furniture that she couldn’t use.
