Located on W.14th St. in New York City’s Meatpacking District, our Studio is sited in a recently landmarked building from the early 1900s. Following in the area’s industrial vein, the 4,000 square foot loft environment is characterized by raw concrete floors and exposed brick walls. The neighborhood has become home to high–end designer clothing boutiques, multi–starred restaurants and galleries. One of the only DWR Studios to feature weekly window displays, the space displays a wide selection of seating, bedroom designs, workspace and outdoor furniture, lighting and accessories. Studio Proprietor Brian Lynch oversees the Studio and provides personalized, knowledgeable assistance along with his staff.

Don's Home Furniture has been a long time in the making. For over 20 years we have continued to grow into a very sizeable independent furniture store. When it all began back in 1986, the little 1800 square foot store on Madison's south east side was called Don's Collection of Reproductions. Back then we carried mostly oak furniture that was new, but made to look like the antiques of the early 1900's. We were so small back then that when a customer came into the store we actually had to walk away from them just so we could stay out of their way while they looked around.........

George Smith was most well known for cabinet making and upholstery during the first quarter of the 19 th Century and was spoken of in the same breath as contemporaries Henry Holland and Thomas Hope.
He made furniture in a wide, eclectic range of tastes, based generally on the late neo-classical style, but also including neo-gothic style work and chinoiserie. He produced several pattern books the first being "A Collection of Designs for Household Furniture and Interior Decoration.

We first opened our doors in 1962 as a family business. A husband and wife team named Gordon and Carole Segal, and one (yes, count them... one) eager sales associate who was enthusiastic about their vision. One can only imagine the office parties they had. Table for three, please. Fast forward forty years. And did it ever go fast. Paul Vetrano, supplies the chairs for about 40 percent of Manhattan's restaurants, in the showroom of his business, New York Chair Co. in Manhattan. Whatever the cuisine, restaurant supplier Paul Vetrano has the seat to match. Everyone opening a restaurant these days hopes to emulate the runway success if the perpetually packed Balthazar in Soho, right down to the retro brasserie's signature stool: a clubby wine colored padded vinyl cushion with brass nailheads astride a mahogany frame. He should know Vetrano sells chairs and stools to 40 percent of New York City's 10,000 eateries and many outside of the city, from dumpy diners and Asian noodle houses to sleek coffee bars and posh French brasserie's. While a chair may not be the focal point of the restaurant, says Vetrano, it's rolled in the overall dinning experience cannot be under estimated.

When asked about his earliest antique acquisition, Karl Kemp replies, "It was a Biedermeier chair, which I purchased at my mother's suggestion. I was only 20 or 21 years old, but I bought it myself."
Kemp's mother, a woman of great taste and education, was also a fine collector of antiques. From their home in Cologne, Germany, she instilled in him an appreciation for the Neo-Classical decorative arts of the early 19th Century. Her guidance ultimately lead to Kemp to study the finer points of art history and architecture.
Ironically, Mr. Kemp did not immediately pursue his presnt vocation. his professional goals brought him to New York City in the early 1970's, where he held the position of Chief of Acquisitons at The Brooklyn Public Library.

Totem currently represents 40 designers and manufactures form the United States and Europe, selling their products through wholesale channels as well as its retail showroom located at 71 Franklin Street in the Tribeca neighborhood of New York City.
