When Beth Colosimo was growing up in Salt Lake City, Utah, there was always a room or two in her parents’ home where she and her friends were not allowed to go. She remembers going to her Grandma’s home where the lampshades were covered in plastic and the sofas were covered in sheets. Sitting on the furniture or even going in those rooms was almost forbidden. Beth always wondered what the purpose was of furniture that she couldn’t use.

Classic Sofa was founded over 17 years ago by Maurice Stone and his sons with the goal of providing upholstered furniture of old world quality and style at an approachable price. Originating from the Flat Iron District in New York City we have grown to a modest group of showrooms servicing some of the finest communities in the Northeast as well as becoming an essential resource to the trade.
All of our furniture is handmade by seasoned craftsman in our own workrooms (one of the secrets to our industry-leading delivery times) so we can maintain the highest standards. Most people associate the name Aga with good food and fine living. And although it’s often thought of as quintessentially British, the Aga actually began life in Sweden. The celebrated cooker found in 750,000 households worldwide was invented by Dr Gustav Dalén, a blind Nobel Prize-winning physicist. Appalled that his wife and their maid had to constantly tend to their old-fashioned range, Dalén set out to design a modern cooker that would look after itself. It’s unlikely Dalén could have predicted that his invention would go on to be widely acclaimed as a design icon, but it has. In the year 2000, the BBC published a retrospective of the 20th Century highlighting what it considered to be the top three design icons: first was the Coca-Cola® contour bottle, second was the VW™ Bug and third was the Aga cooker.

The historical designers include those whose work is widely recognized as setting the tone for the modernist movement worldwide, as well as those who were no less influential but whose work is only now coming to light.
