O silte e as argilas depositados neste antigo lago foram submetidos a um suave movimento de elevação epirogenético, enquanto os Andes se ergueram e os modernos rios começaram a cavar os seus leitos. Assim surgiram os três tipos de florestas amazônicas: as florestas montanhosas Andinas, as florestas de terra firme e as florestas fluviais alagadas, as duas últimas na Amazônia brasileira.
