As a department of the United States Military Academy, the Museum supports cadet academic, military and cultural instruction. Its collections include nearly all aspects of military history and encompass the history of West Point and the United States Military Academy, the evolution of warfare, and the development of the American Armed Forces. While only a portion of the collection is on display, all artifacts are available for cadet academic instruction, special exhibition and research.

Hospedou-se na Fazenda do Padre Correia e chegou a fazer uma oferta para comprá-la. Diante da recusa da proprietária, D. Pedro comprou a Fazenda do Córrego Seco, em 1830, por 20 contos de réis, pensando em transformá-la um dia no Palácio da Concórdia.

The science portion of the museum has fourteen different collections in Archaeology, Arthropod, Botany Herbarium, Economic Geology, Herpetology, Ichthyology, Invertebrate, Mammalogy, Mycological Herbarium, Ornithology, Paleontology, Pollen and Plant Microspore, Rocks and Minerals, and Zooarchaeology as well as more than 325,000 alcohol-preserved fish specimens. A Fundação Casa de Rui Barbosa tem sede na casa onde residiu o grande jurista e intelectual brasileiro entre 1895 e 1923, data de sua morte. Comprada pelo governo brasileiro em 1924, juntamente com a biblioteca, os arquivos e a propriedade intelectual das obras de Rui Barbosa, a casa foi aberta ao público como museu - o primeiro museu-casa do Brasil - em 1930.

O museu foi a residência do fundador da República brasileira, Benjamin Constant, adquirido pelo patrimônio público logo após o seu falecimento, em 1891. Está localizado em uma área verde de 10.500m², no bairro de Santa Teresa. Possui uma exposição permanente de objetos, obras de arte e mobiliário que recriam o modo de vida do final do Século XIX e início do Século XX, época em que viveu Benjamin Constant.

OMuseu do Marajó nasceu de modo informal em 1972, na cidade de Santa Cruz do Arari. Em 1984, foi instalado no prédio de antiga indústria de extração de óleo vegetal em Cachoeira do Arari, onde permanece até hoje. No dia 16 de dezembro de 1981 foi fundada a Associação com o nome de O Nosso Museu de Santa Cruz do Arari.
No dia 14 de julho de 1983, na Assembléia Geral dos sócios, foi mudada a razão social, sendo escolhida a nova denominação de O MUSEU DO MARAJÓ.

O MARGS é considerado o principal museu de arte do Estado e um dos mais importantes do país, reunindo em seu Acervo quase três mil obras de artistas locais, nacionais e internacionais, tendo sediado mais de mil exposições ao longo de sua cinqüentenária trajetória. The DOCKYARD MUSEUM in the Naval Officer's House interprets the story of English Harbour and of the people that toiled in this famous Georgian Royal Naval Yard. It also explains the 20th century return of sailing ships and the aims and aspirations of Nelson's Dockyard National Park. There is also a small "Nelson's Room" with a life sized portrait of Nelson researched through archaeological means.
