Em 1998 surgiu a idéia da construção de um colégio, que suprisse as reais necessidades da população da Região Oceânica, em relação à Educação Infantil e ao Ensino Fundamental.

York Preparatory School is a fully accredited co-educational college preparatory day school located at 40 West 68th Street in the Lincoln Center area of New York City. One hundred per cent of the graduating class is accepted to college, with over 85% of students getting into their top two choices. The Nightingale-Bamford School has provided a rigorous college preparatory education for girls and young women since 1920. Initially opening in 1971 as a one-room schoolhouse in the heart of Manhattan’s Greenwich Village, The Studio School has evolved as an independent, not-for-profit day school whose continuing challenge is to educate the minds and bodies of our students while allowing them to maintain their own spirit and character. Since its formation in 1960, the American Montessori Society (AMS) has been the mainstay of the Montessori movement in the United States. AMS is a non-profit, non-discriminatory service organization dedicated to encouraging and supporting the use of the Montessori teaching approach in private and public schools. Member-supported, its funding comes mainly from Montessori-credentialed teachers, schools, administrators, teacher education programs, parents of Montessori schoolchildren, and interested friends. Ten thousand members strong, they are committed to furthering Montessori philosophy, making it a growing educational alternative, and promoting better education for all children regardless of age, socioeconomic status, or geographical location.

A complexidade que envolve as relações humanas torna quase que impossível reproduzir regras ou ditar padrões rígidos de comportamentos que, em muitas vezes, significam o primeiro passo rumo ao fracasso da convivência dentro e fora da escola. ntretanto, pensar, discutir e praticar uma conduta ética é, sem dúvida, uma forma de cuidar e cuidar-se para que possamos vivenciar um mundo melhor. Limites claros e definidos consensualmente não devem ser vistos como barreiras ou obstáculos e sim como conquistas de cada aluno, para inserir-se num sistema formado por dois subsistemas: o dos deveres e o dos direitos dos estudantes.

Lower School teachers have been thinking together about the goals we set for social studies, in particular the conceptual goals that underlie our projects, trips and written tasks. As much as in literacy or math, we design a program to reflect students’ developmental orientation. We meet them where they are, tapping into their interests and curiosity within the framework of their realm of understanding. For example, we know that the younger child learns through concrete, personal experience – a trip or interview is a springboard for extended learning as your child reflects, questions, draws and writes about an exciting experience, turning it into new and deeper understanding. As the student matures and her worldview broadens, she extracts more and more information from books and symbolic communication, linking this to direct, interactive experience. Eventually, around Third Grade, students are ready to leave what we call the ”here and now” and enter the world of “long ago and far away;” to study those things that cannot be visited directly, tasted or touched. Thanks to the experiential foundation of their earlier years, eight and nine year olds are prepared to appreciate the flow and evolution of history and to conceptualize a timeline leading from then to now.

O Ensino Médio foi implantado em 1985, com a colaboração do Prof. Comte Bittencourt, que meses antes assumira a Direção Administrativa da escola. A partir daí, nossa escola passou a denominar-se Colégio Marília Mattoso.

A Escola possui dois prédios destinados à Educação Infantil e do Ensino Fundamental, com 2 andares cada um, 10 amplas e arejadas salas de aula, 1 sala de informática, 1 biblioteca com laboratório de Ciências, secretaria, gabinete da Direção, sala de Coordenação, 2 pátios cobertos, sendo um o play-ground com grama sintética e brinquedos importados, tanque de areia, casinha de bonecas, quadra esportiva, 7 banheiros, cozinha e refeitório.
