Flushing Meadow Corona Park is one of the greatest places in New York City. Its poetic, phoenix-like transformation from ash dump to oasis was driven by Queens' residents, the City and 1939 and 1965 World's Fair held in this park. Em 1º de março de 1565, Estácio de Sá fundou, na Urca, entre os Morros Cara de Cão e Pão de Açúcar, a Cidade do Rio de Janeiro. Neste mesmo local foi erguida a Fortaleza de São João, constituída por três redutos (pequenos fortins também chamados de Baterias) e um grande Forte, o Forte São José, de 1578 – o terceiro forte mais antigo do país.
Depois de mais de cem anos, o Forte São José está sendo restaurado com apoio da lei Rouanet de Incentivo à Cultura. As duas primeiras fases da restauração foram patrocinadas pelo BNDES. Agora em sua terceira fase, o objetivo é fazer o restauro dos canhões do séc. XIX, e implantar projeto de iluminação para que o local possa ser visitado também à noite. A arquitetural original está sendo respeitada para que o carioca possa voltar no tempo.
A restauração do Forte São José será o ponto culminante de um grande complexo turístico-cultural dentro da Fortaleza de São João, que já está recebendo a visitação de escolas interessadas em mostrar aos seus alunos o palco de tantos momentos históricos importantes.

Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden will kick off its roster of 2013 events on January 12 with a concert by the Vincent Ruggieri Jazz Quartet and an exhibition of the work of two unique artists from the Snug Harbor Artist Residency Program (SHARP). The jazz concert, the first in the Island Sounds Music Mash-Up series will be from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Main Hall, Building C. The SHARP exhibition will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art in Building G. Refreshments will be served. Admission to both events is free. O Teatro Municipal João Caetano foi reinaugurado em 1995, após uma profunda restauração. O Castelinho do Flamengo, também conhecido como Castelinho das Bruxas e Castelinho do Flamengo, patrimônio histórico tombado da cidade, construção residencial do Comendador Joaquim da Silva Cardoso e sua esposa Dona Carolina.Castelinho no início do Século XX, foi projetado em 1916 pelo arquiteto italiano Gino Copede e sua construção terminou em 1918.
O Centro Cultural municipal foi criado em 1992. O nome escolhido buscou homenagear o dramaturgo carioca Oduvaldo Vianna Filho, carinhosamente chamado pelos amigos de Vianinha, falecido precocemente em 1974.
A programação do espaço privilegia a palavra e inclui exposições de poesia visual, oficinas de literatura, filosofia e artes, cursos, debates, seminários e mostras especiais de filmes em vídeo.
O Castelinho disponibiliza ainda uma midiateca com cerca de 750 títulos em seu acervo e acesso gratuito à internet. Tem um auditório com capacidade para 40 lugares, 3 pequenas galerias para exposições e 3 salas para debates e oficinas.

Uma Área de preservação ambiental (APA) do município, localizado no alto do morro da Viração, numa altitude de 270 m. No local existe uma fonte natural. Possui um mirante e dele pode-se ter uma visão panorâmica das Lagoas de Piratininga e Itaipu; das Praias de Piratininga, Itaipu e Camboinhas, dos bairros de São Francisco, Jurujuba, Charitas e Icaraí entre outros, da Baía de Guanabara, em toda a sua extensão e do mar aberto, até onde a vista consegue alcançar.
