The Birmingham School of Law was founded when Judge Hugh A. Locke began tutoring young men for the bar admission test in 1915. Judge Locke was a prominent attorney, Judge of the Chancery Court, and President of the Birmingham Bar Association. As the number of young men grew, classes began to meet at Birmingham Southern College, where Judge Locke was a Trustee for 55 years.

One of the first co-educational colleges chartered by the University of the State of New York and the oldest private liberal arts university on Long Island, was founded in 1896 through the efforts of Dr. Charles H. A meta do CESV é a autonomia intelectual do aluno. Ao longo do curso, ele é motivado para definir problemas, examinar várias alternativas para tratá-los, integrar diferentes áreas do conhecimento, fazer leituras, buscar dados, pesquisar, entrevistar, estruturar o seu raciocínio, chegar a conclusões e apresentá-las em público, de forma correta. A Iniciação Científica (IC) tem sido a valorização do trabalho em grupos de pesquisa, com a participação de vários professores e alunos. Nessa atividade, dá-se ênfase a um trabalho de pesquisa que colabore não só no processo de transformação da Faculdade e da sociedade, mas também na integração entre pesquisa e ensino na graduação e na pós-graduação. Com esse objetivo, o CESV já organizou, em 2003, a sua "1ª Jornada de Iniciação Científica" na qual participaram alunos bolsistas do Cesv, alunos da pós-graduação, professores, pesquisadores do Cesv e convidados.

Originou-se da Escola Superior de Agricultura e Veterinária - ESAV, criada pelo Decreto 6.053, de 30 de março de 1922, do então Presidente do Estado de Minas Gerais, Arthur da Silva Bernardes.
A ESAV foi inaugurada em 28 de agosto de 1926, por seu idealizador Arthur Bernardes, que na época ocupava o cargo máximo de Presidente da República. Em 1927 foram iniciadas as atividades didáticas, com a instalação dos Cursos Fundamental e Médio e, no ano seguinte, do Curso Superior de Agricultura.

The Law School's lawyering program spans all three years of law school and is designed to prepare each student for the practice of law. Beginning in the first year, students are introduced to lawyering skills and perspectives as part of the required curriculum. In the second year, students choose from a range of lawyering seminars that strengthen skills and knowledge to use in several different public interest areas. Finally, in their third year, students select a clinical offering from the Law School's nationally-ranked clinical program.

Seleção La Salle: Consiste numa Redação, na mesma data do concurso vestibular, cuja nota final para aprovação deverá ser igual ou superior a 50 e a análise de Histórico Escolar, também com nota final para aprovação igual ou superior a 50, respeitando os seguintes critérios: Português e Literatura = 30 pontos e Objetivas (Matemática, Física, Química, Biologia, História e Geografia) = 20 pontos, perfazendo um total de 100 pontos conforme determina o Regimento Interno da instituição.
