A conquista do título também facilita a captação de recursos nacionais e internacionais para o desenvolvimento de projetos científicos e de educação ambiental. Entre as coleções estão mais de 80 mil espécies de plantas vasculares, principalmente orquídeas, cactos e outras suculentas, palmeiras, bulbosas, coníferas e árvores de regiões temperadas e espécies silvestres, especialmente as que estão ameaçadas, assim como milhares de espécies cultiváveis de importância econômica e seus correspondentes silvestres, como plantas frutíferas e medicinais.
