The foliage season for our area begins in early September. For a few weeks, nature puts on one of its most spectacular displays. From bright yellows to vibrant reds, the leaves transform, showing their rich and vibrant hues. Every year, people flock to the Northeast, to catch a glimpse of natures splendor. Now just imagine viewing this transformation from above. Seeing the leaves changing color from the air is just amazing!
September is also the month of the Adirondack Balloon Festival. Thousands of people each year show up to see 100 plus balloons fill up the autumn sky. Goodness knows the world had its share of problems in 1951. The Korean War was raging in the Far East, while race riots flared in the Midwest. America was testing old atomic bombs in Las Vegas, and detonating new hydrogen ones in the Marshall Islands. Gen. Douglas MacArthur was fired for being a relentless hawk, the week after Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were sentenced to death for allegedly hawking atomic secrets. Actor Ronald Reagan co-starred with a chimp in Bedtime for Bonzo, and red-baiting Sen. Joe McCarthy co-starred with a similar crew, in the infamous House Un-American Activities Commitee.
