"In November 1944, the idea for building a Mosque in Washington DC was born through a discussion between Mr. M. Abu Al Hawa and the former Ambassador of Egypt, Mr. Mahmood Hassan Pasha.
Soon thereafter, a handful of diplomats and American Muslims formed the Washington Mosque Foundation. The Foundation’s membership quickly grew to include representatives from every Islamic nation in the world and American citizens. They all supported the Foundation’s appeal for funds. They managed to raise enough money that enabled them to purchase the land that the Center sits on now on Washington’s “Embassy Row”. They purchased the land on April 30, 1946, and laid the cornerstone on January 11, 1949.
Finally, with its completion, the Islamic Center’s dedication ceremony took place on June 28, 1957. Former United States President Dwight D. Eisenhower spoke for the American representatives. In his address, he praised the Islamic world’s “traditions of learning and rich culture” which have “for centuries contributed to the building of civilization.” He affirmed America’s founding principle of religious freedom and stated that: “America would fight with her whole strength for your right to have here your own church and worship according to your own conscience. Quem pensa que a Floresta da Tijuca é a maior floresta urbana do mundo, pode estar enganado. Localizado na Zona Oeste da cidade do Rio de Janeiro, considerado um dos maiores parques urbanos do mundo e a maior floresta urbana do país, ocupando cerca de 10% da área total do município do Rio de Janeiro, o Parque Estadual da Pedra Branca possui cerca de 12.500 hectares de área coberta por vegetação típica da Mata Atlântica, como cedros, jacarandás, jequitibás e ipês, além de uma variada fauna, composta por jaguatiricas, preguiças-de-coleira, tamanduás-mirins, pacas, tatus e cotias.
O maciço circunda os bairros de Guaratiba a oeste, Bangu e Realengo ao norte, Jacarepaguá a leste, Barra da Tijuca a sudoeste e ao sul, Recreio dos Bandeirantes e Grumari ao sul e Campo Grande a noroeste e compreende o conjunto das seguintes serras: Valqueire, Viegas, Bangu, Barata, Lameirão, Engenho Velho, Rio Pequeno, Taquara, Pedra Branca, Quilombo, Santa Bárbara, Rio da Prata, Nogueira, Alto do Peri, Sacarrão, Geral de Guaratiba, Carapiá, Cabuçu e Grumari. Separa-se do Maciço de Gericinó pela Baixada Bangu - Realengo e do Maciço da Tijuca pela baixada de Jacarepaguá.

O Hopi Hari é um dos maiores parques temáticos do Brasil, com 760 mil m². Localiza-se no município de Vinhedo, na Rodovia dos Bandeirantes, a 72km da capital do estado de São Paulo, ao lado do parque aquático Wet´n Wild. O parque é um país fictício - seus funcionários são os habitantes (hópius e hópias) - com "Presidente", capital, idioma próprio, entre outras características. O parque Hopi Hari é dividido em 5 regiões, cada qual com suas características e história, e em cada uma delas, têm suas respectivas atrações (brinquedos), são elas: Kaminda Mundi, Mistieri, Infantasia, Aribabiba e Wild West.

Os personagens foram criados especialmente para o Parque, com base no tema, que é a cultura brasileira e suas origens: indígena, africana e européia. Aproveitando a beleza e a força da nossa natureza, tiveram destaque alguns animais ameaçados de extinção - como o mico leão dourado, a arara azul e o boto cor-de-rosa -, que conseguiram se salvar e foram viver na Terra Encantada.

O Sítio do famoso paisagista abriga cerca de 3500 espécimes de plantas originárias de florestas brasileiras e de outros países, numa área de 360.000 metros quadrados. A coleção é considerada uma das mais importantes do mundo no que se refere a plantas tropicais e semi-tropicais, possuindo o título de patrimônio cultural brasileiro desde 1985. Cursos e encontros são regularmente promovidos e estudantes universitários são orientados por professores de Biologia/Botânica. Fazem parte do Conselho Consultivo do Sítio muitos dos melhores botânicos e paisagistas brasileiros que ajudam a instituição com os seus conhecimentos. O Sítio não é aberto ao público para passeios livres. É obrigatória a prévia marcação da visita que se realiza orientada por monitores.
