Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden will kick off its roster of 2013 events on January 12 with a concert by the Vincent Ruggieri Jazz Quartet and an exhibition of the work of two unique artists from the Snug Harbor Artist Residency Program (SHARP). The jazz concert, the first in the Island Sounds Music Mash-Up series will be from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Main Hall, Building C. The SHARP exhibition will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art in Building G. Refreshments will be served. Admission to both events is free. Located on Staten Island 's North Shore Empire Zone. Built almost 75 Years ago, this theatre once housed 3,000 people and was a showcase for celebrities of that time and later, as a motion picture venue. It enjoyed a successful economic life from 1929 until the 1970’s. At that time, vaudeville was entertainment of a bygone era and multi-screen, small capacity motion picture theatres were cropping up throughout the island. Attempts were made to re-vitalize the theatre by using it as a flea market, an antique showroom, a night club, and skating rink. None of these lasted very long and many who remembered or heard fond stories of its past grandeur, wondered what would become of the beautiful St. George Theatre . Hope was raised in January 2001 when, in his State of the City address, then Mayor Rudolph Giuliani promised resources for the renovation of the St.George Theatre into a Performing Arts Center which would ensure revitalization into the entire neighborhood. Unfortunately, the tragic events of 9/11/01 understandably put a halt to these resources.

A Fundação Nacional de Arte - Funarte - é vinculada ao Ministério da Cultura e tem como objetivo primordial incentivar e amparar, em todo o território nacional e no exterior, a prática, o desenvolvimento e a difusão das atividades artísticas e culturais nas áreas das artes cênicas: teatro, dança e circo, artes visuais e música.

A Casa França-Brasil é um Centro Cultural difusor de Arte Contemporânea, com Exposições, Projeto Educativo, Sala de Leitura e Bistrô. A instituição está instalada numa construção neoclássica tombada, projetada no século XIX. Em janeiro de 1816 chegou ao Rio de Janeiro uma Missão Artística Francesa chefiada pelo escritor Joachim Lebreton (1760-1819), com o objetivo de formar no Brasil o núcleo de uma Academia de Belas Artes. De suas atividades deriva o projeto do prédio que hoje abriga a Casa França-Brasil, de autoria de Grandjean de Montigny, idealizado para ser uma Praça de Comércio (inaugurada em 13/10/1820 e fechada um ano depois). Em 1824, o prédio é reaberto como alfândega. E, 1956 a 1978, sedia o II Tribunal do Júri. Fechado desde então, é reinaugurado em 29/03/1990 depois de convênio firmado entre a Secretaria Estadual de Cultural, a Secretaria de Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico, a Fundação Nacional Pró-Memória, o Ministério da Cultura da França, a Fundação Roberto Marinho e a Rodhia para a execução das obras que o tornaram um centro cultural.

A Floresta da Tijuca foi reflorestada no século XIX após anos de desmatamento intenso e plantio, principalmente de café. O reflorestamento foi uma iniciativa pioneira em toda a América Latina.
A Floresta da Tijuca possui recantos e atrativos históricos que merecem ser visitados, como: a Cascatinha, a Capela Mayrink, o Mirante Excelsior, o Barracão, a Gruta Paulo e Virgínia, o Lago das Fadas, a Vista Chinesa e o Açude da Solidão, pontos freqüentados por famílias inteiras nos fins de semana.

Possui 700m de extensão e significa em Tupi ''pedra escrita, riscada ou que tem inscrição''. Suas águas são transparentes e azuladas em meio a uma vegetação exuberante. É o paraíso dos surfistas; embora pequena, é uma das mais freqüentadas e preferidas pela juventude, e das que oferece maior riqueza de paisagem.

O Centro de Artes Calouste Gulbenkian foi criado em 11 de março de 1971 e recebeu este nome em homenagem à instituição cultural portuguesa sediada em Lisboa, a Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian. A origem do Centro Calouste Gulbenkian, que está instalado na Praça Onze, está ligada à necessidade de formar professores de artesanato para atender às escolas públicas do Estado do Rio. Os cursos de Artes oferecidos no Centro de Artes Calouste Gulbenkian traduzem uma proposta artístico-educacional diversificada e plural, dentro de uma prática atualizada e dinâmica, onde múltiplas linguagens artísticas se integram - do artesanato à pesquisa com novos matérias. Esses cursos são direcionados a quem busca a iniciação ou o aperfeiçoamento através da arte, tanto como linguagem expressiva como para a criação de objetos utilitários. Através de aulas práticas em salas-oficinas, adequadas a cada uma das modalidades artísticas, os professores procuram dar atendimento individualizado, buscando atender os diferentes objetivos de cada aluno.

Criado pela Prefeitura do rio em 1979, com área de 30,8 hectares, o Parque possui esculturas dispostas sobre o relevo natural do terreno, em recantos paisagisticamentes tratados com espécies ornamentais singelas, que se harmonizam às obras de arte. Possui uma trilha que leva ao Pico do Sacopã, de onde é possível contemplar a bela vista da Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas.

Projetado inicialmente pelo paisagista inglês John Tyndale em 1840 ao gosto dos jardins românticos, foi parcialmente reformulado, nas décadas de 1920-30 e 1930-40, principalmente o trecho à direita, quando seu proprietário, o industrial Henrique Lage, mandou edificar nova residência, em substituição à que fora de seu pai, Antônio Martins Lage.

Localizada entre Piratininga e Camboinhas é de pequena extensão e bastante freqüentada pelos que vem pelo mar em lanchas e iates, pois seu difícil acesso, através de uma trilha, não é muito conhecido. É um dos mais belos recantos da cidade
