Considered the first successful adaptive re-use project in the country, was originally a chocolate factory established by Domenico “Domingo” Ghirardelli. The chocolate manufacturing operation was sold and transferred to San Leandro in the 1960s. Unique shops and restaurants were created within the old factory combining the latest in retailing and fine cuisine with the flavor of old San Francisco. The restoration project officially opened on November 29, 1964.
Today, Ghirardelli Square delights visitors with its lively retail mix, while maintaining Ghirardelli’s tradition as a trendsetter for the rest of the world. It continues to serve as a model for restoration complexes throughout the country such as Faneuil Hall Marketplace in Boston and Baltimore’s Harborplace.

Greenville Mall was originally built as a strip center named Pitt Plaza. The center was enclosed in the 1980s as a response to construction of Carolina East Mall and named The Plaza. It was subsequently renamed Colonial Mall Greenville when purchased by Colonial Properties Trust. The purchase of the mall by GG&A in 2007 resulted in the name being changed to Greenville Mall. Grand Teton Mall recently completed a multi-million dollar renovation which included revitalizing the center’s interior and adding all new family friendly amenities. A new color palate, tile flooring and additional lighting have brightened the centers feel and made this regional shopping center an outstanding centerpiece of the community.
The renovation project was completed with the addition of a 26,500 Barnes & Noble Bookseller featuring a Starbucks Café, Wi-Fi services, Barnes & Noble Jr. children’s area with over 15,000 titles and the ability to listen to over 200,000 music titles with their RedDotNet technology.

"As you may, or may not be aware, much of what was previously the South Hills Mall in Poughkeepsie, New York has been recently demolished to make way for an outdoor shopping center. This is quite unfortunate, as the South Hills Mall brought so many people in our area such fond memories over the past 30 years. Not to mention, this mall was the original; it introduced the first true indoor shopping mall experience to Poughkeepsie. Thankfully, Silver Cinemas, K-Mart, Shop Rite, and Burlington Coat Factory have remained; which we admire, support, and highly recommend. Although, unfortunately, everything else the mall had to offer has had to go."

Northgate Mall opened in 1972 on the former site of the Mt. Healthy Airport. When it opened, the Mall was heralded as "one of the largest and most modern shopping centers in the country" which was expected to "change the shopping habits of the area."
