Greenville Mall is a shopping mall located in Greenville, North Carolina which has over 500,000 square feet. It is located at the corner of Greenville and Arlington Boulevards.
Greenville Mall was originally built as a strip center named Pitt Plaza. The center was enclosed in the 1980s as a response to construction of Carolina East Mall and named The Plaza. It was subsequently renamed Colonial Mall Greenville when purchased by Colonial Properties Trust. The purchase of the mall by GG&A in 2007 resulted in the name being changed to Greenville Mall. The Shops at Fallen Timbers is designed to become an architecturally appealing one million square foot open-air lifestyle center, overlooking a feature lake. Zona Rosa is an approximately 500,000 square feet, mixed-use (retail, office and residential) development located in Kansas City, Platte County, Missouri. The project opened in 2004 and is expected to be expanded by an additional 500,000 square feet by early 2008. It was developed by Steiner+Associates known for their Easton Town Center development in Columbus, Ohio.
Zona Rosa is an example of a new trend in retail development where traditional regional malls are replaced by mixed-use projects featuring residential, office and/or hospitality uses in a high density urban environment organized around traditional street grids. Tysons Corner Center, located in the Tysons Corner unincorporated area in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States (near McLean), opened to the public in 1968, becoming one of the first fully enclosed, climate-controlled shopping centers in the greater Washington area. (The fully enclosed Iverson Mall in Hillcrest Heights, Maryland, opened in 1967.) It is the largest shopping mall in the state and in the Baltimore-Washington area.
There are plans to extend the Washington Metro subway westward to Tysons Corner and eventually out to Dulles Airport. The Tysons Central 123 Silver Line station is planned to be on the north side of the shopping center where Tysons Boulevard crosses State Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road).
