You will go to the favelas of Vila Canoas and Rocinha, the largest one in the country. Denise and Gabriel Werneck, a mother-and-son team, both born and raised in Rio, started Rio Hiking in 1999. They started by taking visitors on the family’s favourite hike, the Tijuca Peak, as well as visiting the historic district of Santa Teresa, where they had lived most of their lives.
