Localizado em um prédio de 20 mil m² no bairro das Laranjeiras, Rio de Janeiro, o Instituto Nacional de Cardiologia (INC) oferece serviços diferenciados na investigação diagnóstica e no tratamento das doenças cardiovasculares.

Há 15 anos, na busca de melhor qualidade do atendimento, a Diretoria do SAMCI promoveu a separação da unidade hospitalar, transferindo-a para o Hospital da Rua Silva Teles 52, Andaraí, previamente reformado, transformando-o em modelar Hospital Infantil, ocupando 3.200m² de área útil, abrigando: Centro Cirúrgico com 03 salas de cirurgia totalmente equipadas, 62 leitos, distribuídos entre apartamentos, enfermarias e UTI pediátrica.

O HGB é o maior hospital da rede pública do Estado do Rio de Janeiro em volume geral de atendimentos, sendo categorizado como hospital geral com porta hospitalar de emergência e reconhecido como Centro Regional Terciário. Além disso, é considerado referência em Oftalmologia, Cirurgia de Cabeça e Pescoço, Atendimento à Gestante de Alto Risco e atendimento de alta complexidade como transplante de rins, fígado e córnea.

O Hospital e Maternidade Santa Paula, surgiu da garra, determinação e coragem de sete profissionais médicos, que há 26 anos tiveram a iniciativa de construção da Maternidade em meio a um bairro sem a mínima infra-estrutura, apenas existia água e restinga. Após muito esforço conseguiu-se abrir caminho para o transporte de material de construção, pois eram precárias as condições para se chegar ao hospital, principalmente na época de chuva. Com perseverança após 3 anos, foi inaugurada a Maternidade com poucos leitos e um corpo clinico de extrema competência. Com o passar dos anos, juntamente com o crescimento do bairro e com aquele mesmo entusiasmo do inicio, a Maternidade cresceu e passou a ser além de Maternidade Hospital Geral, várias especialidades se tornando referencia para o bairro e toda a população que hoje está estimado em 60 mil habitantes, e abrangendo também toda Grande Vitória. The name and location of the hospital has gone through several changes since Elizabeth Blackwell founded the New York Dispensary for Poor Women and Children in 1853. In 1857 she opened the hospital under the name of New York Infirmary for Indigent Women and Children at a different location (7th Street, near the present day Tompkins Square Park. As the hospital required more space it was moved again the next year 1858 to Stuyvesant Square. Finally in 1981, merging with the Beekman Downtown Hospital, it relocated to its present site in Lower Manhattan under the name of New York Infirmary-Beekman Downtown Hospital. In 1991 it was renamed New York Downtown Hospital. In 1997 after three years of affiliation with NYU Medical Center the name was changed to NYU Downtown Hospital and in 2005 the affiliation with the NYU Medical Center ceased and the hospital reverted back to the name New York Downtown Hospital.
