All Brooklyn Dojo programs or instructors are based in Brooklyn with a majority in the greater Brooklyn Heights vicinity.

Youth programs are designed to instill confidence and aid children in developing to their fullest potential. Tiger Schulmann seeks to help build a solid foundation in life for as many children as possible, by assisting them in achieving a healthy mind and body through martial arts instruction. This wellbeing will instill in them the self-confidence, focus and determination necessary to become strong and successful in every aspect of life.<br> The adult program is designed to help one achieve self-confidence through physical conditioning and mastering the art of self-defense. Striving to train as many adults as possible to be physically fit and relieved of everyday stress and adept in practical martial arts skill, which will assist them in becoming more confident and successful in every aspect of their lives.

Located in Queens, New York, was established in 1995. Currently located in a brand new, state of the art 4,500 sq. ft. facility, PMA offers programs for all ages. The youth program is age specific and is targeted towards the developmental stage of each child.

NYC Bujinkan Budo is dedicated to the correct transmission of authentic Bujinkan martial arts. Training is conducted in the traditional Japanese manner with an emphasis on jissen gata. Because ninpo is a living art, it is both traditional and modern. NYC Bujinkan Budo is fully licensed by Hatsumi Sensei and the Bujinkan Hombu Dojo. <br> Due to the nature of this Dojo, membership will be selective. Training is geared towards Yudansha (Dan holders). Those with the wrong mindset or attitude will be turned away. <br> Training will be open to prospective members ONLY on the first weekend of the month, unless otherwise indicated and/or permitted. All other sessions will be CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC. Prospective members must e-mail prior to attendance. Current Bujinkan members, however, may train at any session. <br> Due to the nature of training, only Adults (18yrs of age or older) may participate.

Porta's Karate-Do & Kobudo Academy was established in 1966 by Sensei John Porta. The Academy offers programs in three martial arts: Karate, Kobudo (traditional Okinawan weapons), and Tai Chi Chuan. Sensei Porta holds an 8th degree black belt in Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate, and was awarded the rank of Kyoshi. For centuries millions of people have benefited from the teachings of the martial arts — techniques of self-defense created in the Orient. The martial arts do not advocate the use of weapons. Instead, they strengthen the mind and body through self-discipline, fitness and awareness. The Mormando Martial Arts System teaches the fundamentals of the martial arts by combining the time-tested Eastern philosophy with the modern approach of Western teaching methods.

The man most responsible for the systemization of Karate as we know it today was Gichin Funakoshi. He was born in Shuri, Okinawa in 1886. When he was only a boy of 11, he began to study (then known as "Okinawa-te") under the top two masters of the art at the time. Azato and Itosu. In time, he became a Karate expert in his own right. He is credited with being the first man to introduce Karate to Japan proper, when he gave expositions sponsored by the Ministry of Education. The art soon caught on in Japan, and Funakoshi traveled throughout the country giving lectures and demonstrations. The main universities invited him to help them set up Karate teams, and hundreds of persons studies the art under his guidance. In 1957, Master Funakoshi, the father of modern Karate, passed away at the advanced age of 89, leaving thousands of students to carry his spirit. In Karate, Funakoshi was also a poet under his pen name "Shoto:, meaning "Pine trees in the sand" The style of karate which is taught then became known as "Shotokan Karate".

Capoeira Angola, an ancient martial art of African origin, is one of the many cultural weapons used to break the chains of enslavement in Brazil. Played close to the ground, Capoeira Angola combines fluid, dance-like movements with kicks, head butts, tripping sweeps and the appearance of playfulness or vulnerability. Music is played on traditional instruments to accompany the players, to teach the rhythmic heart of the art, and also to mask its power. In the eyes of the enslavers it appeared to be a joking and playful acrobatic dance, but eventually its power was realized and Capoeira was outlawed. Death was the penalty paid by those caught playing Capoeira during the slavery era. For almost 400 years Capoeira Angola was taught and practiced in secret, and only in the 1930's did this African martial art become legal to teach and practice.

Chintokan teaches Shorin-Ryu Karate-Do which originated in Okinawa, Japan. The documented history of current Shorin-Ryu karatedo tradition begins in Shuri, Okinawa, at some point in the 1800s by Sokon Matsumura (1809~1899), a leading Shuri-Te (one of three original Ryukyu Kenpo) master of his time. Beyond that, the unbroken lineage of Shorin-Ryu can be traced all the way back to the Okinawan lords, nobles and bodyguards of the Ryukyu Kingdom era in the 16th century. However, in those days, Shorin-Ryu karate was simply known as "Tea," or "Hand." Tea is Okinawa pronounciation for hand(s).
