Every Memorial Day weekend, the riverfront comes alive with three days of music, art installations, and regional cuisine that draws crowds from across the state. The event sprawls across Julius Breckling Riverfront Park, the bustling River Market District in Little Rock, and extends to North Little Rock's North Shore Riverwalk—a perfect setup for exploring multiple neighborhoods in the crisp late-spring air. Behind the festival is a nonprofit organization that's been operating since 1978, channeling proceeds back into the parks and cultural spaces themselves, with more than $700,000 invested in these public areas over the decades. These last few months following Hurricane Katrina’s impact on New Orleans and the Gulf Coast have left us all ready to enjoy the normal and healthy activities of playing with our children. At the Louisiana Children's Museum, we suffered wind damage, roof damage and water intrusion throughout the building. Our staff has shrunk from 40 to 4, and we are desperately trying to rebuild, repair and get ready for company again.
