Our students are accomplished, diverse, and civic-minded. When they graduate, they join the ranks of our 16,000-strong alumni body. Our alumni are noted members of the bench and bar, and are leaders in public service and private industry. Our faculty are internationally recognized scholars, whose influence extends far beyond the borders of our campus. Here at BLS, these gifted teachers are dedicated to honing the legal minds of the 21st century. Our curriculum is attuned to the evolving needs of our students and the society they will serve. Founded in 1847 as The Free Academy, The City College of New York (CCNY) was one of the great experiments of the young American democracy. At the urging of School Board President Townsend Harris, New York established a school to provide access to higher education for bright young men from working class and immigrant families who could not afford private college. More than 158 years later, the experiment remains an overwhelming success.

The year of 2007 marked the 50th anniversary of Bronx Community College which was established in 1957 after a decade of effort by civic-minded groups in Bronx County to meet the growing need for increased higher education facilities in the “Borough of Universities and Progress.” Classes began with 125 students on February 2, 1959 at the former site of the Bronx High School of Science at Creston Avenue and 184th Street.

SVA offers undergraduate programs in Advertising, Animation, Cartooning, Computer Art, Film & Video, Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Illustration, Interior Design, Photography, and Visual and Critical Studies. The undergraduate program is a four-year, full-time Bachelor of Fine Arts degree program with courses offered throughout the day and evening.

The Birmingham School of Law was founded when Judge Hugh A. Locke began tutoring young men for the bar admission test in 1915. Judge Locke was a prominent attorney, Judge of the Chancery Court, and President of the Birmingham Bar Association. As the number of young men grew, classes began to meet at Birmingham Southern College, where Judge Locke was a Trustee for 55 years.

Founded in 1961, The Graduate Center is the doctorate-granting institution of The City University of New York (CUNY). In this nationally unique consortium of 1700 faculty members, a core faculty of 125 Graduate Center appointments is supplemented by over 1500 additional faculty members drawn from throughout CUNY's ten senior colleges and New York City's leading cultural and scientific institutions. With 4000 doctoral students, they pursue a shared enterprise of expanding the boundaries of knowledge in over 30 doctoral programs and 6 master's programs in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences. Augmenting this enterprise are 28 research centers and institutes focused on areas of compelling social, civic, cultural, and scientific concerns.

Founded in 1868, the campus is located in Berkeley, California, occupying about 200 acres on a wooded slope, plus an additional 1000 acres (4 km²) of largely undeveloped land in the Oakland hills overlooking San Francisco Bay.
Berkeley still enjoys a certain notoriety for its history of student activism. The Free Speech Movement (1964), a protest that began when the university tried to remove political pamphleteers from campus[1], and the People's Park riots (1969) were part of a wave of international student protest that took place during the 1960s, associated with an accompanying "hippie" counterculture. For all of its student activism and rebellious history, however, the Berkeley campus is remarkably serene, with numerous quiet, green areas on campus and many architecturally distinguished buildings. Virginia State University, located in Ettrick, Virginia (near Petersburg, in the Richmond area), was founded on March 6, 1882. It was the United States's first fully state-supported four-year institution of higher learning for black Americans. Its first president was John Mercer Langston who later became the first African American elected to Congress from Virginia. The board of trustees was African American except for one member. The faculty of the collegiate program and the normal school was African American until the mid-1960s. The name used by the historically black university's athletic teams is the "Mighty Trojans." The third season of the reality television series College Hill was filmed at Virginia State University in 2006.

Founded in 1906 and operating for decades as Mississippi Woman's College, William Carey College was renamed in honor of the founder of modern missions in 1954 when the school became coeducational. In 2006, the College's board of trustees renamed the institution William Carey University.
