The Submarine Force Museum, located on the Thames River in Groton, Connecticut, maintains the world's finest collection of submarine artifacts. It is the only submarine museum operated by the United States Navy, and as such is the primary repository for artifacts, documents and photographs relating to U.S. Submarine Force history. The museum traces the development of the "Silent Service" from David Bushnell's Turtle, used in the Revolutionary War, to the Ohio and Virginia class submarines. <br> The museum's collections include more than 33,000 artifacts, 20,000 significant documents and 30,000 photographs. The 6,000 volume reference and research library is a world-renowned collection relative to the history of U.S. submarines and is open to anyone looking for information on submarines or submarine history.

What began as a two-page church bulletin by co-founders George P. Stewart and Will Porter, The Indianapolis Recorder now hails as one of the top African-American publications in the nation. In 1897, the co-founders of the newspaper decided to expand their already successful newssheet into a weekly newspaper. The earliest existing issues of the Recorder date to 1899 — the year Porter sold his share of the newspaper to Stewart.<br> Realizing the importance of local news, Stewart captured that market, outdistancing his local competitors, the publishers of the Freeman and the Colored World. With its emphasis on local news, the Recorder set itself apart from other Black newspapers. It had an immediate and an enduring impact on the Indianapolis community.

The Birmingham School of Law was founded when Judge Hugh A. Locke began tutoring young men for the bar admission test in 1915. Judge Locke was a prominent attorney, Judge of the Chancery Court, and President of the Birmingham Bar Association. Did you know that Goode Motor is the oldest Ford Dealership in Idaho? That's right! What is now Goode Motor, Inc. started as "Jones Read Ford Motor Company" in 1917 when Alonzo Read and his business partner, C.A. Jones, acquired the first Idaho Ford franchise. Alonzo Read had previously owned a harness business; however, seeing that the automobile was the wave of the future, he traveled to San Francisco to learn about the Ford Motor Company. After selling his harness business and buying the Ford franchise, he opened the dealership in Rupert, Idaho -- which is now the oldest Ford Dealership in the State of Idaho. In 1927, Alonzo Read sold his interest in the Ford Dealership and in 1938 the Goode family purchased the interest in the Ford Dealership located in Rupert. The Goode family renamed the dealership to Goode Motor, Inc. Buster Goode assumed the management of the dealership and actively managed it until 1984 when he turned over the day-to-day management to his general manager, Garth Williams. Garth Williams was hired by Goode Motors in 1978 as a car salesman. He worked hard, rose through the Company ranks and by 1984 assumed the day-to-day management of Goode Motor as the General Manager. In 1993, Garth Williams purchased a 49% interest in the dealership from the Goode Family and continued to act as the General Manager.

And there's a reason why Kent and his dealership team have said "Yes" to virtually every one of the hundreds of Eastside charities, schools and organizations who've come to them wanting to further the life and future of a child. How can a man who was given so little in his formative years, grow up and discover how to give so much and so freely to so many? The reason has something to do with the sobering memories of his youth. "I grew up in an alcoholic family in Worcester, Massachusetts," recalls Kent. "When the bills came, and the bills couldn't be paid, we kept moving." The family finally settled in Seattle, a number of changed addresses later, he graduated from Shorecrest High School. One reason young Kent Chaplin survived is that, when he was 20, he was friended by Bill McCalmon Sr., the owner of Lynnwood Auto-Wrecking. McCalmon told Kent, "I like you a lot. You work hard. Don't let anyone ever stop you from doing what you want to do." He loaned Kent some money to get by, and when Kent prepared a written promissory note, McCalmon scoffed. "You've given me your word," he told Kent. "I trust you."
