In 1991, Ralph was in Florence Italy having an extended lunch. While discussing food and wine with the owner of the osteria, the thought of recreational cooking programs was formulated. <br> Whereas his expertise was not in the field of cooking and touring (he was the founder and president of a financial services company), he started doing his “home-work˜, and with good fortune was able to initiate his first cooking program in Tuscany in 1992.<br> At this point, he started spending more time in Italy, exploring the beautiful countryside with its fine wines, olive oils, cheeses, meats, produce and ristoranti. Equally as important, he fell in love with the people. This has enabled him to extend his business relationships into personal relationships, which he, in turn, shares with the participants in the programs, all of which he personally accompanies.

In 1973, Giuliano Bugialli founded the first cooking school in Italy to be taught in English. His aim was to provide a well-rounded base for the study of Italian cuisine, by combining the finest cooking instruction with a full immersion in the local life and culture. Holladay Tours began with a goal. Tom and Sharon Holladay wanted to share with others the travel experiences they had enjoyed in their personal travels. The Holladays recognized the merits of group travel. new adventures and new friends all at an affordable price! In 1990 they began to schedule group tours on a part time basis. It took some time to get the word out and the name circulated but they hung in there and didn’t give up. Each year business increased and in 1992 Holladay Tours was incorporated. A tour brochure was published twice yearly and continues to be mailed to a growing list of tour guests. In 1994 Tom made the decision to go into the group tour business on a full time basis. Sharon joined him in the business in 1996 as a tour planner and tour escort. Holladay Tours continues into its second decade with the original goal in mind to provide the customer with the ultimate travel experience.
