The foliage season for our area begins in early September. For a few weeks, nature puts on one of its most spectacular displays. From bright yellows to vibrant reds, the leaves transform, showing their rich and vibrant hues. Every year, people flock to the Northeast, to catch a glimpse of natures splendor. September is also the month of the Adirondack Balloon Festival. Thousands of people each year show up to see 100 plus balloons fill up the autumn sky. Each May, JCCC faculty and staff have the opportunity to enjoy a week-long tour of Kansas emphasizing the state’s history, environment, populations, art, geography and economy. Stops may include Salina, Lindsborg, Nicodemus, Lucas, Hays, Victoria, Dodge City, Garden City, Mullinville, Goessel, Council Grove, among others
Because Kansas residents often feel that people from Johnson County know nothing about the rest of the state, the trip is intended to help JCCC faculty and staff better understand the state in which they live or work. Tours of historic sites, meetings with community leaders, and targeted readings give participants a much greater understanding of what it means to be a Kansan.
