Virginia State University, located in Ettrick, Virginia (near Petersburg, in the Richmond area), was founded on March 6, 1882. It was the United States's first fully state-supported four-year institution of higher learning for black Americans. Its first president was John Mercer Langston who later became the first African American elected to Congress from Virginia. The board of trustees was African American except for one member. The faculty of the collegiate program and the normal school was African American until the mid-1960s. The name used by the historically black university's athletic teams is the "Mighty Trojans." The third season of the reality television series College Hill was filmed at Virginia State University in 2006.

Chester College of New England is a private, non-sectarian institution of higher education that offers the Bachelor of Arts degree. The College grants the Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Art, Graphic Design, Photography and Media Arts, Creative Writing, Professional Writing, and Interdisciplinary Arts.
Chester College of New England embraces the idea that the liberal arts are essential to lifelong education, as well as being the foundation of all creative and professional endeavors. The Pennsylvania State University (commonly known as Penn State) is a state-related land-grant university with a central campus located in State College, Pennsylvania, mailing address University Park, Pennsylvania. The University contains 23 additional campuses located throughout the state, including a virtual World Campus. The enrollment at Penn State is over 84,000 students, placing it among the ten largest public universities in the United States. The year of 2007 marked the 50th anniversary of Bronx Community College which was established in 1957 after a decade of effort by civic-minded groups in Bronx County to meet the growing need for increased higher education facilities in the “Borough of Universities and Progress.” Classes began with 125 students on February 2, 1959 at the former site of the Bronx High School of Science at Creston Avenue and 184th Street.

The Law School's lawyering program spans all three years of law school and is designed to prepare each student for the practice of law. Beginning in the first year, students are introduced to lawyering skills and perspectives as part of the required curriculum. In the second year, students choose from a range of lawyering seminars that strengthen skills and knowledge to use in several different public interest areas. Finally, in their third year, students select a clinical offering from the Law School's nationally-ranked clinical program.

Like their predecessors early in the 20th century, some Rockefeller researchers today seek to solve urgent public health problems. Others focus on basic research. Various laboratories study bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics, multidrug treatments for AIDS and genetic causes of cancer. Others are devoted to understanding the brain–how it develops during embryonic growth; how it makes sense of sights, sounds and smells; and what happens when Alzheimer’s disease develops. In addition, faculty focus their research on human genetics, molecular biology, neuroscience and protein chemistry.

Florida International University is an urban, multi-campus, research university serving South Florida, the state, the nation and the international community. Spelman is part of the largest consortium of historically Black institutions of higher learning in the world. Its four partner institutions include Clark Atlanta University, the Interdenominational Theological Center, Morehouse College and Morehouse School of Medicine. Spelman shares cross-registration with its undergraduate partners. They also share the Robert W. Woodruff Library.

The University of Toronto was founded as King’s College in 1827 and has evolved into a large and complex institution. It now occupies three campuses: Scarborough and Erindale and the historic St. George campus. It has federated with three smaller universities which are on the St. George campus, and is affiliated with several colleges and institutes. There are ten fully affiliated teaching hospitals in metropolitan Toronto. Faculty conduct research in many places in Canada and around the world.
