For two hundred years, the White House has stood as a symbol of the Presidency, the United States government, and the American people. Its history, and the history of the nation’s capital, began when President George Washington signed an Act of Congress in December of 1790 declaring that the federal government would reside in a district "not exceeding ten miles square…on the river Potomac." Em 1956, passa a ser residência oficial dos Presidentes da República. Juscelino Kubitschek de Oliveira é o primeiro Presidente a residir no Laranjeiras. Em 1974, com a fusão dos antigos estados da Guanabara e do Rio de Janeiro, promovida pelo então Presidente Ernesto Geisel, o Palácio é cedido ao novo Estado do Rio de Janeiro para servir de residência oficial de seus Governadores

O Instituto Casa de Cultura Rio (ICCRIO) foi fundado em 1988, sendo a escola pioneira do Método Suzuki de ensino musical no Rio de Janeiro. Ao longo destes anos, Suray Soren, diretora artística do Instituto, vem ensinando violino a crianças e adolescentes por este revolucionário método japonês. O XKart é um grupo de kart amador do Rio de Janeiro, fundado em 2003, que realiza campeonatos de kart indoor. Apesar do que possa parecer, o termo "kart indoor", não se refere a competições em pista coberta. Como o Rio foi por muito tempo capital do Brasil, a história da Câmara Municipal se confunde um pouco com a história do País. O Palácio Pedro Ernesto possui obras que retratam importantes momentos e belos detalhes arquitetônicos. Ao entrar no Palácio, construído no início do século XX por A. Jannuzzi, é forte a impressão. Beleza e tradição caminham juntas pelo piso em xadrez de mármores de Carrara e verde grego. A escadaria em frente ao portão principal tem, em seu patamar, o busto do prefeito Pedro Ernesto, obra de Pinto do Couto. Mais dezoito degraus levam ao segundo pavimento, nos quais o pintor Carlos Oswald deixou sua marca. Produziu painéis, em forma de leque, representando cenas de época: A audição de cravo, O minueto, A cadeirinha e A cabra cega. Ainda na Presidência, pode ser encontrada uma loba romana, que amamenta os irmãos Rômulo e Remo, peça de bronze de Barye, grande mestre animalista francês. As pinturas no teto são de autoria dos irmãos Carlos e Rodolfo Chambelland, em estilo impressionista.

Localizada no interior da Baía de Guanabara, significa em Tupi: água benta, água santa, rio sagrado ou rio salgado. Dela avista-se a Pedra do Índio, a Pedra de Itapuca; o MAC e parte da cidade do Rio de Janeiro, destacando-se o Corcovado e o Pão de Açúcar.

Em 16 de junho de 1950, foi inaugurado o Estádio do Maracanã, no Rio de Janeiro, para que o Brasil pudesse sediar a Copa do Mundo, já que a Europa encontrava-se abalada pela Segunda Guerra Mundial.
