Tudo começou em 1945, quando os caminhões pau-de-arara, vindos de vários estados do Nordeste, chegavam ao Campo de São Cristóvão trazendo retirantes nordestinos para trabalhar na construção civil, onde já tinham vaga garantida.
O encontro dos recém-chegados com parentes e outros conterrâneos era animado com música e comida nordestinas, dando origem à Feira de São Cristóvão. Durante 58 anos, a tradicional Feira permaneceu no Campo de São Cristóvão, debaixo das árvores. Em 2003, as barracas foram transferidas para dentro do antigo Pavilhão, que foi reformado pela Prefeitura do Rio e transformado no Centro Municipal Luiz Gonzaga de Tradições Nordestinas. Hoje, a Feira de São Cristóvão tem boa infra-estrutura de limpeza e segurança, com banheiros públicos e estacionamento. São cerca de 700 barracas fixas, que oferecem as várias modalidades da cultura nordestina: culinária, artesanato, trios e bandas de forró, dança, cantores e poetas populares, repente e literatura de cordel.

Criado pela Prefeitura do rio em 1979, com área de 30,8 hectares, o Parque possui esculturas dispostas sobre o relevo natural do terreno, em recantos paisagisticamentes tratados com espécies ornamentais singelas, que se harmonizam às obras de arte. Possui uma trilha que leva ao Pico do Sacopã, de onde é possível contemplar a bela vista da Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas.

Com 2.600m, é uma extensão da própria Praia de Itaipu. Suas águas são transparentes e esverdeadas, e sua areia clara e fina. Recanto pitoresco, é muito procurado pelos amantes da pesca de arremesso; pelos velejadores e wind-surfistas.

Bonanzaville USA is named after the Bonanza Farms that dotted this region in the late nineteenth century as a result of Northern Pacific Railroad's marketing efforts. The NPRR lobbied for large-scale, showcase farms of 1,000 acres or more to advertise the economic potential of the land on either side of the Northern Pacific's route, in particular the land along the Minnesota, Dakota Territory border known as the Red River Valley. They believed these enormous farms would attract people to the Midwest and in return ensure financial support for the railroad. They were right.

Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden will kick off its roster of 2013 events on January 12 with a concert by the Vincent Ruggieri Jazz Quartet and an exhibition of the work of two unique artists from the Snug Harbor Artist Residency Program (SHARP). The jazz concert, the first in the Island Sounds Music Mash-Up series will be from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Main Hall, Building C. The SHARP exhibition will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art in Building G. Refreshments will be served. Admission to both events is free. The assassination of President Abraham Lincoln here on April 14, 1865, overshadowed this theater for most of its history. Ford's opened just four years before that fateful night. Restored to its 1865 appearance, Ford's is again a showcase for plays. The basement-level Lincoln Museum displays artifacts from the assassination, including the gun John Wilkes Booth used to kill Lincoln. Mementos from Lincoln's life are also on display. O site Ciência Hoje On-line é uma iniciativa pioneira de divulgação científica na internet brasileira. Além de disponibilizar parte do conteúdo das publicações do ICH, o site publica notícias exclusivas atualizadas diariamente que oferecem ao leitor uma cobertura dinâmica da atualidade científica no Brasil e no mundo.
Em 2007, foi lançado, em parceria com o Centro Brasileiro de Pesquisas Físicas, o livro Física Hoje - Uma aventura pela natureza: dos átomos ao universo, que reúne 11 artigos escritos por renomados pesquisadores brasileiros e originalmente publicados na revista Ciência Hoje ao longo de 2005, em comemoração ao Ano Mundial da Física.
O ICH atua também na divulgação científica em meios audiovisuais: o Instituto promoveu a realização do programa de televisão Tome Ciência, uma série semanal que abordou de forma acessível temas de ciência e tecnologia.. ”O Monumento aos Mortos da Segunda Grande Guerra Mundial, também conhecido como Monumento aos Pracinhas, localiza-se no Aterro do Flamengo, no centro da cidade do Rio de Janeiro. O monumento foi inaugurado em 1960 para abrigar os restos mortais dos soldados brasileiros mortos na Segunda Guerra que, até então, estavam depositados no cemitério de Pistóia, na Itália. Como pode ser visto neste vídeo, o conjunto é integrado por três obras de arte: uma escultura de metal homenageando a Força Aérea Brasileira. Outra de granito, homenageando os soldados das três armas e um painel de azulejo em homenagem aos mortos no mar. Detalhe: a plataforma que se eleva a 31 metros de altura empregou, pela primeira vez no Brasil, o concreto aparente.”

O Centro de Artes Calouste Gulbenkian foi criado em 11 de março de 1971 e recebeu este nome em homenagem à instituição cultural portuguesa sediada em Lisboa, a Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian. A origem do Centro Calouste Gulbenkian, que está instalado na Praça Onze, está ligada à necessidade de formar professores de artesanato para atender às escolas públicas do Estado do Rio. Os cursos de Artes oferecidos no Centro de Artes Calouste Gulbenkian traduzem uma proposta artístico-educacional diversificada e plural, dentro de uma prática atualizada e dinâmica, onde múltiplas linguagens artísticas se integram - do artesanato à pesquisa com novos matérias. Esses cursos são direcionados a quem busca a iniciação ou o aperfeiçoamento através da arte, tanto como linguagem expressiva como para a criação de objetos utilitários. Através de aulas práticas em salas-oficinas, adequadas a cada uma das modalidades artísticas, os professores procuram dar atendimento individualizado, buscando atender os diferentes objetivos de cada aluno.

Começou a realizar filmagens (seu filme Pátio, de 1959, é o primeiro curta-metragem da Bahia) , ao mesmo tempo em que ingressou na Faculdade de Direito da Bahia (hoje um dos cursos da Universidade Federal da Bahia), entre 1959 a 1961), que logo abandonou para iniciar uma breve carreira jornalística, em que o foco era sempre sua paixão pelo cinema. Da faculdade foi o seu namoro e casamento com uma colega, Helena Ignez.
Sempre controvertido, escreveu e pensou cinema. Queria uma arte engajada ao pensamento e pregava uma nova estética, uma revisão crítica da realidade. Era visto pela ditadura militar que se instalou no país, em 1964, como um elemento subversivo.
Em 1971, com a radicalização do regime, Glauber partiu para o exílio, de onde nunca retornou totalmente. Fonte

Fundada em 1978 pelo Maestro Florentino Dias, a Orquestra Filarmônica do Rio de Janeiro é reconhecida como de utilidade pública, sem fins lucrativos, e está cadastrada no Ministério da Cultura, o que permite aos seus patrocinadores e doadores beneficiarem-se com deduções no Imposto de Renda através da Lei Rouanet, além do retorno institucional ao afinarem-se com a harmonia e o belo.

Como foi criada nos moldes das grandes orquestras européias e norte-americanas, não tem vínculo com o Governo. Sua administração compõe-se de uma Diretoria, uma quadro de Patronesses e Patronos, e um Conselho Deliberativo do qual fazem parte pessoas da mais alta expressão cultural da nossa sociedade, e compõe-se de 70 músicos profissionais.

A Fundação Planetário do Rio é um centro de pesquisa e divulgação da ciência Astronomia e de ciências afins. Popular e lúdico, o Planetário do Rio oferece aos seus visitantes cursos, exposições temporárias, exposição permanente com 56 experimentos interativos, sessões de cúpula, visitação guiada ao museu com monitores e observações do céu semanais.
