The great thing about designing furniture is that it is exclusively for humans; and regardless of how much humans evolve, we continue to have pretty basic needs in terms of furnishing the places where we live...We sleep in beds...We work at desks...We sit in chairs...We eat from table tops...We put our clothes in chests and wardrobes...Fortunately, I do not think that we will ever evolve to a state where this is different.

When Albert DeMatteo launched Carlyle Custom Convertibles in 1966, he focused on one thing — making the best sleeper sofa on the market. By sticking with that goal, he has far exceeded it.

Don's Home Furniture has been a long time in the making. For over 20 years we have continued to grow into a very sizeable independent furniture store. When it all began back in 1986, the little 1800 square foot store on Madison's south east side was called Don's Collection of Reproductions. Back then we carried mostly oak furniture that was new, but made to look like the antiques of the early 1900's. We were so small back then that when a customer came into the store we actually had to walk away from them just so we could stay out of their way while they looked around.........

reGeneration is a ten-year-old store dealing in Mid-Century vintage furniture, with a focus on the 50's. The store specializes in vintage pieces from American and Danish designers, such as Florence Knoll, George Nelson, Edward Wormley, Jens Risom, Milo Baughman, Hans Wegner, Arne Jacobsen and Borg Mogensen. The store combines a large selection of everyday pieces with hard to find collectibles, but what really makes it unique among Mid-Century outlets is the consistency in selection, style and price.

We first opened our doors in 1962 as a family business. A husband and wife team named Gordon and Carole Segal, and one (yes, count them... one) eager sales associate who was enthusiastic about their vision. One can only imagine the office parties they had. Table for three, please. Fast forward forty years. And did it ever go fast. Today's Crate and Barrel family has grown to over 115 stores and over 6000 associates nationwide. And, we might add, still growing. While we are proud of our growth and achievements over the years, we feel it is what we fondly call the "3 P's" that has kept our vision and product as fresh and invigorated as the day we opened.

It quickly became a destination for those who craved original and handmade items from around the world. Items were sold at cost, plus ten percent - hence the name Cost Plus World Market!

Bought an expensive piece of furniture here and paid about 25% in cash and then financed the rest through them. All they gave me about the financing was the brochure with the terms that didn't even identify who the lender would be until you get out the magnifying glass and read the fine print. Not only that but the brochure didn't even list a web site address or phone number where you could contact the lender.

Las Venus opened in 1995 on Ludlow Street in the up-and- coming Lower East Side of Manhattan. In the late 1990's, the Lower East Side experienced a renaissance, emerging as one of New York City's hippest neighborhoods. Restoration Hardware was born of frustration. The year was 1979 and our founder, Stephen Gordon, was restoring his Queen Anne Victorian house in Eureka, California. After spending endless days tracking down missing bits and pieces of authentic period hardware, lighting fixtures and finishes, Gordon found there were a lot of people with the same problems. He sensed a need in the marketplace, found his true calling in life, and opened the first Restoration Hardware store in his home in 1980.
