From the start, the mall pulled shoppers from all over central and eastern North Carolina. Many of them came to the 251,000-square-foot (23,300 m2) Hudson Belk, which is still the largest store in the complex and serves as a Belk flagship. The mall was remodeled in the mid 1980s and added many upscale specialty stores and a food court. It faced remarkably little competition in its market until the 1990s, when Cary Towne Center in nearby Cary doubled in size and spawned a companion mall, Crossroads Plaza. Source

Located north of the city of Wilmington, Delaware, in the unincorporated Brandywine Hundred area along U.S. Route 202. The mall is located a short distance south of the Pennsylvania border and it attracts shoppers from Pennsylvania and other neighboring states wishing to take advantage of tax-free shopping in Delaware. The mall opened in stages over a period of several years. The first of the mall was an Almart, a now-defunct discounter, which opened in 1965. In 1971, a Pomeroy's (now-defunct department store chain) was added. The Almart later became a Jefferson Ward (Montgomery Ward-owned discounter), and was then a Bradlees for a brief time until it was demolished for a Sears. Kings Plaza is a shopping center that opened in 1970, within the Marine Park/Mill Basin section of Brooklyn, east of Flatbush Avenue. Later, Kings Plaza closed the Waldenbooks book store, Suncoast videos and Sam Goody music store. The Banana Republic store was closed and changed into a children's clothing store named Kidstown (which has also closed) and a Godiva chocolate store was added.
