Fashion Island is an upscale open-air shopping mall in Newport Beach, California
The large courtyard outside the Bloomingdale's building is occupied annually by a large Christmas tree. About a week before Christmas, every year, the tree is lit, preceded by extravagant holiday performances. The trees are taken from a private timber area near Mount Shasta, and shipped to Fashion Island in several pieces, which are then re-assembled using steel rods and a large crane. Dean & DeLuca announced that it would be opening a new West Coast flagship store at Fashion Island in the fall of 2009. A penny saved is still a penny erned at Bayshore Town Center. Bayshore Community Foundation announced the continuation of the Change for Charity meter program where proceeds generated through parking meter revenue are donated to area non-profit organizations.
Change for Charity designates a new organization every two months to receive a portion of the parking meter proceeds and ticket revenue generated at Bayshore. The 2008 recipients are the sophomore class of local nonprofit organizations that will benefit from the program.
