This is quite unfortunate, as the South Hills Mall brought so many people in our area such fond memories over the past 30 years. Not to mention, this mall was the original; it introduced the first true indoor shopping mall experience to Poughkeepsie. Thankfully, Silver Cinemas, K-Mart, Shop Rite, and Burlington Coat Factory have remained; which we admire, support, and highly recommend. The mall as of 2007[update] is going through an extensive renovation that has moved the old 10 screen theater to a replacement Cinemark 16 screen "stadium style seating" theater in the north ring road area on Avenue O-8. The vacated theater pad will house new restaurants and a new corridor is being built along it for another 31 stores.
