Lower School teachers have been thinking together about the goals we set for social studies, in particular the conceptual goals that underlie our projects, trips and written tasks. As much as in literacy or math, we design a program to reflect students’ developmental orientation. We meet them where they are, tapping into their interests and curiosity within the framework of their realm of understanding. For example, we know that the younger child learns through concrete, personal experience – a trip or interview is a springboard for extended learning as your child reflects, questions, draws and writes about an exciting experience, turning it into new and deeper understanding. As the student matures and her worldview broadens, she extracts more and more information from books and symbolic communication, linking this to direct, interactive experience. Eventually, around Third Grade, students are ready to leave what we call the ”here and now” and enter the world of “long ago and far away;” to study those things that cannot be visited directly, tasted or touched. Thanks to the experiential foundation of their earlier years, eight and nine year olds are prepared to appreciate the flow and evolution of history and to conceptualize a timeline leading from then to now.

Hempstead once an academic power in the 1980s has shown signs of decline recently. They began to shown major signs of improvements with high graduating classes of 2005 and again in 2006. In terms of test scores, in 2004 Hempstead had 57% of its students pass the Math A Regents Examination, up from 28% in 2003 (the state average in 2004 was 78%). In English for 2004, the passing rate stood at 66% up from 49% in 2003 (state avg.77%). In Physics, Hempstead had a 88% passing rate, compared to a 81% state average. Em 1972, com as inovações introduzidas pela Lei 5692/71 na Educação Brasileira, foi implantada a reforma de ensino do 1º grau(hoje Ensino Fundamental) sob a direção do sobrinho de D. Marília, Reynaldo Mattoso Cavalcanti. Sob sua orientação a escola passou também por outras transformações.
No ano de 1976, implementou-se a criação do Mattosinho com a finalidade de atender aos alunos da educação infantil. A escola continuava a crescer até que em 1978 foi inaugurada a nova e atual sede, na rua José Bonifácio nº 39. O Ensino Médio foi implantado em 1985, com a colaboração do Prof. Comte Bittencourt, que meses antes assumira a Direção Administrativa da escola. A partir daí, nossa escola passou a denominar-se Colégio Marília Mattoso. |

The United Nations International School (UNIS) was founded in 1947 by United Nations affiliated families. UNIS has a multi-national staff from 70 countries and over 1,450 students from 115 countries. O Grupo Bernoulli nasceu no ano 2000, através da criação do Pré-vestibular Elite, com o objetivo inicial de prestar serviços educacionais de qualidade, capazes de possibilitar a aprovação de seus alunos nos vestibulares mais difíceis e concorridos do país como UFMG, Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica (ITA), Instituto Militar de Engenharia (IME), Unicamp, dentre outros.
De lá para cá muita coisa aconteceu e, atualmente, o Grupo é formado por três instituições, cada qual com sua sede:
- O Colégio e Pré-vestibular Bernoulli: que possui Ensino Fundamental II, da 5ª à 8ª série (6ª à 9ª série de acordo com a nova legislação que instituiu o Ensino Fundamental de 9 anos), Ensino Médio, da 1ª à 3ª série, e Pré-vestibular (com coordenação e projeto pedagógico idênticos ao do Pré-vestibular Elite).
- Pré-vestibular Elite: possui turmas de pré-vestibular com foco na preparação para os vestibulares mais difíceis do país.
- Editora Bernoulli: responsável pela elaboração do material didático utilizado pelo Grupo Bernoulli nas turmas de 3ª série do Ensino Médio e de Pré-vestibular, bem como pela comercialização desse material com outras escolas.

Every student in Uniondale High School has the tools and support needed to become successful citizens. UHS has achieved state recognition for closing the achievement gap last year and exceeding state standards. UHS has also attained a 92% regents passing rate and achieved mastery in English, math, social studies and the foreign languages.

Em agosto de 2002 foi criado o Colégio Cavalieri com o objetivo de ministrar o Ensino Fundamental e o Ensino Médio.
A escolha do nome do nosso estabelecimento de ensino deu-se através de uma busca interminável entre pessoas ilustres. Ocorreu-nos então, o nome de Francesco Bonaventura Cavalieri, nome este que seria para os nossos alunos uma figura exemplar de luta e de vida estudiosa.
Cavalieri, ao conhecer Galileu, interessou-se pela Matemática, descobrindo o método dos indivisíveis, iniciando uma nova era para a Geometria e abrindo caminhos para o cálculo integral.
Cavalieri era teólogo e fez também estudos sobre seções cônicas, trigonometria, ótica, astronomia e astrologia, dando ao mundo valiosa colaboração.
Somos parceiros da Rede Salesiana de Escolas, vivenciamos a filosofia de Dom Bosco e seu Sistema Educativo é um projeto ousado e inovador para o Novo Milênio. Dom Bosco, homem de personalidade forte e rara, foi exemplo de persistência, austeridade e de dedicação. Ele fundou, em Turim, na Itália, uma obra destinada à juventude, obra que deu origem à Sociedade de São Francisco de Sales (Salesianos). Dom Bosco, embora tenha vivido há mais de cem anos, continua sempre atual.

Cardinal Hayes High School was built and organized by His Eminence Francis Cardinal Spellman between September, 1940 and September, 1941. Its original student body consisted of over 3000 students who attended this institution at the Main Building on the Grand Concourse or at one of the four annexes.
The school provides a quality education and religious formation for young men of the Bronx and Manhattan. We understand the idea of liberal education in different ways, all of us, but I'm pretty sure we could agree on a small number of things that are necessary to it: reading and writing accurately and truthfully; being curious and critical-minded; opening our minds to the ideas of others; questioning authority; maintaining self-respect and respect for the other. It is an endless project. Its ideals are woven through the ideals of democracy. I've come to think that, beyond the ideal of learning for its own sake, for the love of it, a liberal education serves politics. The political question is something like, "What is one to do with one's power?" How Trinity goes about the business of a liberal education is our way of answering that question.
