Joe and Trisha are the owners and operators of CKO Brooklyn. Joe began taking classes at CKO in Hoboken nearly 3 years ago, and it immediately changed his body and his outlook on training. "I felt as if I had finally accomplished something in the gym"
Trisha was also impressed at the immediate results that she felt after just a few classes.
When the opportunity came up to purchase the very first franchise in CKO history, we jumped on it, knowing that we can finally give back what has been given to us-a great, fun ,yet very effective way to workout at high intensity. |

Chintokan teaches Shorin-Ryu Karate-Do which originated in Okinawa, Japan. The documented history of current Shorin-Ryu karatedo tradition begins in Shuri, Okinawa, at some point in the 1800s by Sokon Matsumura (1809~1899), a leading Shuri-Te (one of three original Ryukyu Kenpo) master of his time. Beyond that, the unbroken lineage of Shorin-Ryu can be traced all the way back to the Okinawan lords, nobles and bodyguards of the Ryukyu Kingdom era in the 16th century. However, in those days, Shorin-Ryu karate was simply known as "Tea," or "Hand." Tea is Okinawa pronounciation for hand(s).

The origins of Goju Ryu Karate are shrouded in the mists of time. Many of the techniques found in this powerful style are common to the fighting systems of South China. Emphasis is placed on breath control and conditioning. What is now called GoJu Ryu or the hard/soft system was introduced into Okinawa by Kanryo Higaonna early in this century. His primary student, Chojun Miyagi, developed the style further incorporating three new forms (kata). At that time Goju Ryu did not have an official name. After some thought the name hard/soft was taken from the Bible of Karate called BUBISHI

All of our programs are based on a professional boxer's training regimen, with some modifications. These are not aerobic or circuit boxing classes. Our philosophy is that in order to get the full benefits of boxing, your training should reflect that of a professional fighter. This does not mean you will be drinking raw eggs and hitting sides of beef. It does mean that we hold you to the same standards we do a professional fighter. When you train, train to win.
