Newsday is a daily tabloid-size, Pulitzer Prize-winning, American newspaper that primarily serves Long Island and the New York City borough of Queens, although it is sold throughout the New York City metropolitan area. As of fall 2007, Newsday's weekday circulation of 387,000 made it 10th-highest in the United States, and the highest for a suburban newspaper. A family-owned newspaper now in its fourth generation of ownership, the Bangor Daily News has been Maine's newspaper of record for well over one hundred years. Established in 1889 by the great grandfather of the current publisher, Richard J. Warren, the company continues to serve its readers and its advertisers with products that are relevant to the times. Carolyn J. Mowers, sister of the publisher, serves as Chairman of the Board.

Crain Communications Inc is a major publishing conglomerate based in Detroit, Michigan. The company publishes a variety of trade newspapers, including some city-based business newspapers, such as Crain's Cleveland Business, Crain's Chicago Business, Crain's Detroit Business, and Crain's New York Business, and Crain's Manchester Business. These weeklies follow the same formula, including finance, manufacturing, health care, real estate, technology, and government sections, as well as an "in-depth" section. In addition to newspaper production, the editors maintain Internet versions of these papers and offer e-mail news briefs free of charge.

The Sioux Falls Argus and Sioux Falls Leader were born in the boom days of the 1880s, when Sioux Falls was young and saloons outnumbered churches 32 to 14, and the city's 20 gambling establishments served 10,000 citizens.
These were the years when a newspaper was a civic booster, and had no trouble labeling those who disagreed kickers and croakers.

The first issue of the San Diego Reader came out on October 4, 1972. The 12-page black-and-white tabloid was laid out on the dining room table of a 1-bedroom apartment on Mission Boulevard in Mission Beach, and 20,000 copies were printed at Western Offset on State and Market streets.

Santee Cooper started work in September to install underground utilities along a section of Myrtle Avenue south of the South Causeway. It will serve 47 homes and is funded by the property owners and the town.

The Flint Journal has had only three publishers in 125 years. . No, they didn’t average more than 41 years apiece in the job; the job didn’t exist until 1978, more than a century after the newspaper was founded.
So who ran the operation before 1978? It was a team effort: an editor on the news content side and a manager on the business and financial side. In the early years, the manager was most likely also the owner. |
