Sunday, October 16, 1859, Brown, accompanied by about 20 men, all fully armed, crossed the Potomac into Virginia (now West Virginia) at Harper's Ferry. They overpowered the watchmen at the following locations: the Baltimore & Ohio railroad bridge, the United States armory and arsenal, and the rifle factory above the town on the Shenandoah. They placed guards at those points and at the street corners of the town. Brown established himself in the thick-walled brick building at the armory gate, one room of which was the quarters of the watchman and the other contained a fire-engine. He then sent six men, to seize the principal citizens in the neighborhood and incite those of African decent to rise and join in the insurrection.

The Bank of Canada's Currency Museum was opened in 1980. It is home to the National Currency Collection, the largest collection of Canadian bank notes, coins, and tokens in the world. The Museum is located within the first Bank of Canada building (built in 1934), just minutes from Parliament Hill.

Construída por volta de 1860, pelo médico José Martins Rocha, a casa é vendida ao Industrial Português José Francisco Correia - Visconde de Sande e depois Conde de Agrolongo (Títulos recebidos em Portugal).
Em 1903, o Conde retira-se para Portugal e põe a residência a leilão com todos os seus pertences, não aparecendo comprador. Pela mesma época a Capital era transferida de Petrópolis para Niterói e o Governador Nilo Peçanha resolveu adquirir o palacete para sede do governo, consumando-se a venda em 1904. Durante os 71 anos seguintes, teve o Palácio, 43 ocupantes entre governadores interinos e interventores federais.

A Fundação Casa de Rui Barbosa tem sede na casa onde residiu o grande jurista e intelectual brasileiro entre 1895 e 1923, data de sua morte. Comprada pelo governo brasileiro em 1924, juntamente com a biblioteca, os arquivos e a propriedade intelectual das obras de Rui Barbosa, a casa foi aberta ao público como museu - o primeiro museu-casa do Brasil - em 1930.

O Museu Judaico do Rio de Janeiro, fundado em 1977, com a doação de uma menorá (candelabro de sete braços, um dos principais símbolos do judaísmo), é um centro cultural dinâmico, integrado à vida da cidade com atividades estruturadas em torno do binômio preservação da memória/dinamização da cultura judaica.

O Museu de Artes e Ofícios é um museu brasileiro localizado na cidade de Belo Horizonte. Inaugurado em 14 de dezembro de 2005, é o primeiro empreendimento museológico brasileiro dedicado integralmente ao tema do trabalho, das artes e ofícios no país. Com 9.000 m² de área, o museu está instalado no conjunto histórico da antiga Estação Central da rede ferroviária, na Praça Rui Barbosa, mais conhecida como "Praça da Estação". Numa aconchegante casa construída na década de 40, cercada de um bem cuidado e florido jardim, no município de Seara, interior de Santa Catarina, viveu um dos milhares de imigrantes alemães que chegaram ao Brasil no início do século. A história desse teuto-brasileiro seria igual à de tantos outros imigrantes do sul do país que trabalharam duro para garantir as condições mínimas de sobrevivência num ambiente inóspito, não fosse ele Fritz Plaumann, um dos mais respeitados entomologistas do mundo.

O Museu da UFRGS, desde sua criação, vem desenvolvendo exposições e projetos especiais de difusão científica, tecnológica, artística e cultural. Foram promovidas diferentes ações educativas e culturais com acervos pertencentes à Universidade e Instituições associadas.

O Museu do Açude situa-se na cidade do Rio de Janeiro, no coração da Floresta da Tijuca, numa área de 150 mil metros quadrados e tem o propósito de relacionar o patrimônio cultural ao natural. Sua sede no estilo neocolonial, cercada pela mata atlântica é a antiga residência de verão de Raymundo Ottoni de Castro Maya (1894-1968). Apresenta coleção de azulejos, painéis franceses, holandeses, espanhóis e portugueses dos séculos XVII ao XIX. Louça do Porto, fabricada a partir do século XIX em Portugal, além de exemplares raros de escultura chinesa, indiana e porcelanas de procedências diversas. O Museu ganhou destaque por ser o cenário externo da mansão da viúva Porcina, vivida pela atriz Regina Duarte na novela Roque Santeiro.

Construído em 1914, com o objetivo de reforçar a defesa da Baía de Guanabara, o Forte de Copacabana oferece aos seus visitantes muitas curiosidades e atrações. No Museu Histórico do Exército, fatos marcantes estão registrados através de exposições, exibições de vídeo, maquetes e, até, um setor interativo, original e bastante visitado pelos freqüentadores do Forte. Em 1556, o Pe.Afonso Brás finalizou a construção em taipa da primeira Igreja dos jesuítas em São Paulo, anexa às dependências do Colégio.
Prejudicada por 13 anos de ausência forçada dos padres da Cia. de Jesus, que foram expulsos da vila, foi reconstruída e ampliada a partir de 1667, que teve como padroeiro o Senhor Bom Jesus.

O acervo do Museu Nacional de Belas Artes teve origem no conjunto de obras de arte trazido por D. João VI de Portugal, em 1808, ampliado alguns anos mais tarde com a coleção reunida por Joachin Lebreton, que chefiou a chamada Missão Artística Francesa, formando a mais importante pinacoteca do país.

The DOCKYARD MUSEUM in the Naval Officer's House interprets the story of English Harbour and of the people that toiled in this famous Georgian Royal Naval Yard. It also explains the 20th century return of sailing ships and the aims and aspirations of Nelson's Dockyard National Park. There is also a small "Nelson's Room" with a life sized portrait of Nelson researched through archaeological means.
