N-12. Brooklyn Friends School provides a college preparatory program serving students from Preschool through Grade 12. Hempstead once an academic power in the 1980s has shown signs of decline recently. They began to shown major signs of improvements with high graduating classes of 2005 and again in 2006. In terms of test scores, in 2004 Hempstead had 57% of its students pass the Math A Regents Examination, up from 28% in 2003 (the state average in 2004 was 78%). FHHS has often been extremely overcrowded throughout its history, sometimes running several overlapping sessions (7:20am to 1:49pm, 8:09am to 2:38pm, 8:59am to 3:28pm, 9:48 to 4:17pm, 10:37am to 5:06pm). Traditionally, a very large percentage of FHHS graduates have gone on to attend college.

Our mission is to produce young adults, who are happy, well adjusted and academically well prepared to face the challenges of the future and to contribute significantly to societal progress. The highlight of our strong instructional program is our interdisciplinary approach to teaching English and Social Studies as well as Math and Science within a guidance-oriented house structure as it encourages success in our ninth graders. The Reece School is one of the oldest non-profit special education elementary schools in New York City. It was founded in 1948 by Ellen S. Reece and is housed in the home she once owned on East 93rd Street. Today the Reece School presents a highly academic elementary special education for nearly 75 students, ages 5 to 13, who present with learning disabilities, speech and language impairments, and emotional disabilities. The school’s program is full day and is offered within a nurturing environment that is designed to provide high levels of academic and emotional support. Children study a modified, sequential, elementary curriculum for grades K-6 and learn various strategies for overcoming their individual academic difficulties. They develop the social skills to function successfully in the classroom, the school, and the larger community.

Marymount is a college preparatory, independent, Catholic day school for girls, founded by Mother Joseph Butler in 1926 as part of a worldwide school system directed by the Religious Order of the Sacred Heart of Mary. The United Nations International School (UNIS) was founded in 1947 by United Nations affiliated families. UNIS has a multi-national staff from 70 countries and over 1,450 students from 115 countries. The main language of instruction is English and all students study French or Spanish, beginning in the elementary school; Arabic, Chinese, German, Italian, Japanese and Russian are also taught beginning in the seventh grade; additional mother tongues may be studied after school.

St. Joseph Hill Academy is a K-12 Catholic school operated by the Congregation of the Daughters of Divine Charity. It is located on a fourteen acre, park-like campus in the Arrochar section of Staten Island, New York. The elementary school provides co-education for grades K-8. The high school enrolls approximately 400 young women.

Brearley’s enrollment (K-12, divided into Lower School, Middle School and Upper School) today consists of about 670 students from throughout the New York metropolitan area who represent a diversity of backgrounds, experiences and points of view. The main, 12-story school building is located on East 83rd Street in Manhattan overlooking the East River.
