The New York City Police Museum is dedicated to the honor and preservation of our brave men and women who daily risk their lives for our safety and wellbeing. Housed in the rustic First Precinct in Manhattan, the museum is a journey through time, highlighting the various traditions of the NYPD, and enhances public awareness. Visitors are encouraged to learn every aspect of the Police Department as the exhibits do more than just educate; they provide a firsthand account of the vast history of the police and New York itself. Spring 2012 continues to display the 9/11 exhibit, which acts as a memorial for all the brave men and women who unselfishly gave of their lives in service during the devastating 911 tragedy. On the lighter side, Summer 2012 finds the popular annual vintage police car show, for its twelfth season. For a chance to celebrate the heroes beyond the shield, the New York City Police Museum is essential visiting for all New York citizens.

Known for being the first house museum on Staten Island, this New York City museum is rich in history on many levels. Its name lies in honor for the peace conference of 1776, a commemoration. Constructed circa 1680 by Captain Christopher Billopp, this 2 story rubble-stone masonry masterpiece has been restored over the years, as needed for structural integrity. Its steep gable roof gives the essence of the period. By 1934, much work had been completed including the Colonial Rose Garden and planting 13 trees to represent the original colonies. House tours are offered Friday-Sunday at 1 pm. In the midst of a collection of artifacts from the era, it is almost like stepping back to the time when our great country was still forming. The beauty and serenity overpower you while walking the grounds. Spring and summer bring the vivid colors of the trees to life. Why not stop for a minute to quite literally “smell the roses”? One of the most unique and beautifully preserved homes in America is the Garibaldi-Meucci Museum on Staten Island. Maintained to look as it was, over a hundred and fifty years ago, the Garibaldi-Meucci Museum is owned and operated by the Sons of Italy as a tribute to the famous Italians Antonio Meucci and Giuseppe Garibaldi. Inside, the house is divided to represent both of these famous men by having a variety of exhibits and displays documenting their lives work. You could try one of the early versions of the telephone which Meucci is proclaimed to have invented years before Alexander Graham Bell or even look at the first underwater communication models. If Italian revolutionaries are more to your liking, you can experience first renditions of Garibaldi’s novels about the Italian people or gaze at Italian artifacts provided directly from the Italian government. It might seem that an institution like a museum is carved in stone, but since its founding in 1912, the Delaware Art Museum has actually changed a great deal. Our Centennial Timeline, installed in the Museum’s Orientation Hallway, is a look at how things were and how they have changed, both here at the Museum and in the community that we serve. To put the Museum’s historical achievements in context, the Timeline mirrors notable Museum milestones with important local and world events.
A century ago, the Museum started life with an original purchase of approximately 100 Howard Pyle paintings. That collection has grown to include 12,000 works of art by great American masters such as Winslow Homer, artists of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, and well-known American illustrators. The Museum’s name and physical space have also changed considerably. Originally called the Wilmington Society of the Fine Arts, and then the Delaware Art Center, the Museum officially became the Delaware Art Museum in the early 1970s. And although we spent decades traveling around—with no permanent gallery space—the Museum now encompasses 80,000 square feet of exhibition and administrative space, four studio art classrooms, and a sprawling 9-acre sculpture park—the first of its kind in the region.

O Museu de Arqueologia de Itaipu tem como objetivo principal o desenvolvimento de um programa educativo-cultural voltado para as escolas e a comunidade local, através da divulgação de material arqueológico pré-histórico. Seu acervo é composto por objetos testemunhos dos povos que viveram na região antes de 1500 e traduzem elementos de sua cultura material. São machados de pedra, pontas de ossos, lascas de quartzo com variadas funções, polidores, peças cerâmicas e conchas provenientes dos sítios arqueológicos do litoral fluminense. Boa parte dessa coleção - 966 peças - foi doada ao Museu pelo antigo Agente Federal de Fiscalização de Pesca e arqueológico amador Hildo de Mello Ribeiro, que viveu em Itaipu por cerca de 20 anos.

A Fundação Casa de Rui Barbosa tem sede na casa onde residiu o grande jurista e intelectual brasileiro entre 1895 e 1923, data de sua morte. Comprada pelo governo brasileiro em 1924, juntamente com a biblioteca, os arquivos e a propriedade intelectual das obras de Rui Barbosa, a casa foi aberta ao público como museu - o primeiro museu-casa do Brasil - em 1930.

Além de sua sede, Reserva Biológica e Jardim Botânico situados dentro do Parque Estadual das Fontes do Ipiranga, bairro da Água Funda, na capital do Estado de São Paulo, o Instituto de Botânica possui duas outras unidades de conservação, representando os biomas principais do Estado: mata Atlântica (Reserva Biológica de Paranapiacaba) e cerrado (Reserva Biológica e Estação Experimental de Moji Guaçu).

Durante os 15 anos do primeiro governo de Getúlio Vargas, o Rio de Janeiro passou por profundas reformas urbanas e arquitetônicas. Entre 1920 e 1940, a cidade ganhou mais 600 mil habitantes. No campo da arquitetura, foram construídos novos prédios para os Ministérios da Guerra, da Fazenda e Educação e Saúde. A antiga sede do Ministério da Fazenda no Rio de Janeiro funcionava em um velho casarão, quase em ruínas, localizado na Av. Passos. Em julho de 1934 foi autorizada a construção de um edifício-sede, centralizando todas as repartições do Ministério da Fazenda e Tribunal de Contas, na antiga capital brasileira. O local escolhido foi a Esplanadado Castelo. O lançamento da pedra fundamental ocorreu em 3 de outubro de 1938, data escolhida em comemoração ao 8º aniversário da Revolução de1930. O ato foi presidido pelo então presidente da República Getúlio Vargas. Em novembro de 1943 foi inaugurada a nova sede do Ministério da Fazenda de estilo neo-clássico.

O Museu do Açude situa-se na cidade do Rio de Janeiro, no coração da Floresta da Tijuca, numa área de 150 mil metros quadrados e tem o propósito de relacionar o patrimônio cultural ao natural. Sua sede no estilo neocolonial, cercada pela mata atlântica é a antiga residência de verão de Raymundo Ottoni de Castro Maya (1894-1968). Apresenta coleção de azulejos, painéis franceses, holandeses, espanhóis e portugueses dos séculos XVII ao XIX. Louça do Porto, fabricada a partir do século XIX em Portugal, além de exemplares raros de escultura chinesa, indiana e porcelanas de procedências diversas. O Museu ganhou destaque por ser o cenário externo da mansão da viúva Porcina, vivida pela atriz Regina Duarte na novela Roque Santeiro.

A idéia da criação de uma instituição que privilegiasse a cultura gaúcha surgiu entre 1995 e 1996, sendo concretizada através de um convênio entre o governo federal e o governo estadual, em setembro de 1996. Ficou acordado, nessa ocasião, que a sede dos Correios e Telégrafos por quase um século, abrigaria um centro histórico sobre a memória rio-grandense. O acordo de cedência do prédio implicaria também na criação de um Museu Postal e uma Agência Filatélica, o que manteria uma estreita vinculação com as suas funções originais. O projeto de restauração foi previamente aprovado pelo IPHAN (Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional), uma vez que o prédio foi tombado em 1980. O antigo prédio dos Correios e Telégrafos foi totalmente revitalizado para abrigar a Instituição. Surgiu, dessa forma, um centro de informação e divulgação da história do estado, reunindo objetos, mapas, gravuras, fotos, livros, imagens iconográficas e depoimentos importantes sobre os principais fatos ocorridos no Rio Grande do Sul. O riquíssimo acervo está exposto através de uma concepção museográfica moderna aliada a novas tecnologias, permitindo, assim, a integração com o público e o fácil entendimento dos conteúdos.

O Museu da Imagem e do Som (MIS) foi inaugurado em 3 de setembro de 1965 pelo então governador do estado da Guanabara, Carlos Lacerda. O MIS lançou um gênero pioneiro de museu audiovisual que seria seguido por outras capitais e cidades brasileiras, além de ter se constituído num centro cultural de vanguarda nas décadas de 60 e 70 do século XX, lugar de encontros e lançamentos de idéias e novos comportamentos. Além de abrigar importantes arquivos que atendem aos interesses de um público pesquisador amplo e diversificado, o prédio da Fundação Museu da Imagem e do Som é, em si mesmo, uma das mais belas peças de sua coleção, constituindo um exemplar histórico raro dos edifícios construídos para abrigar a Exposição do Centenário da Independência do Brasil, realizada em 1922. Localizado na Praça XV, e inserido na Zona Especial do Corredor Cultural da cidade do Rio de Janeiro, junto com o Museu Histórico Nacional, o Museu Naval, o Paço Imperial, a Casa França-Brasil e o Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil, em 1989 o Instituto Estadual de Patrimônio Cultural (Inepac) do Governo do Estado do Rio de Janeiro promoveu o tombamento do prédio. Em outubro de 1990, pela Lei nº 1.714, o MIS foi transformado numa fundação, dirigida por um presidente.

O Instituto Ciência Hoje (ICH) é uma organização social de interesse público sem fins lucrativos vinculada à Sociedade Brasileira para o Progresso da Ciência (SBPC).
O site Ciência Hoje On-line é uma iniciativa pioneira de divulgação científica na internet brasileira. Além de disponibilizar parte do conteúdo das publicações do ICH, o site publica notícias exclusivas atualizadas diariamente que oferecem ao leitor uma cobertura dinâmica da atualidade científica no Brasil e no mundo.
Em 2007, foi lançado, em parceria com o Centro Brasileiro de Pesquisas Físicas, o livro Física Hoje - Uma aventura pela natureza: dos átomos ao universo, que reúne 11 artigos escritos por renomados pesquisadores brasileiros e originalmente publicados na revista Ciência Hoje ao longo de 2005, em comemoração ao Ano Mundial da Física.
O ICH atua também na divulgação científica em meios audiovisuais: o Instituto promoveu a realização do programa de televisão Tome Ciência, uma série semanal que abordou de forma acessível temas de ciência e tecnologia.. Em outubro de 2004, o ICH se uniu à Rede Globo na campanha Ciência Vale a Pena.

O Paço Imperial é um Centro Cultural com rica programação artística, localizado na Praça XV de Novembro, no centro histórico da cidade, no prédio considerado o mais importante dos edifícios civis coloniais do Brasil. Foi primeiro a residência dos governadores da Capitania do Rio de Janeiro e depois passou a ser a casa de despachos, sucessivamente, do Vice-Rei do Brasil, do Rei de Portugal Dom João VI e dos imperadores do Brasil. Em sua restauração, na reconstituição da fachada, optou-se pela feição colonial, adquirida particularmente no período da ocupação pela Família Real Portuguesa, mas foram preservadas marcas e formas de vários outros momentos históricos. O Paço Imperial conta com uma diversificada programação de artes plásticas, cinema, teatro, música, biblioteca, atividades educativas, seminários, serviços de lojas e restaurantes. Percorrê-lo é fazer uma releitura do tempo inscrito em seus espaços, relacionando-os com épocas e fatos ocorridos. As exposições permanentes também são um ótimo programa cultural.

The DOCKYARD MUSEUM in the Naval Officer's House interprets the story of English Harbour and of the people that toiled in this famous Georgian Royal Naval Yard. It also explains the 20th century return of sailing ships and the aims and aspirations of Nelson's Dockyard National Park. There is also a small "Nelson's Room" with a life sized portrait of Nelson researched through archaeological means.
