Some of them will age gracefully in your cellar for decades to come and some are meant to be enjoyed in the freshness of their youth. Some are full bodied, sun kissed and weighty, others light, fruity and thirst quenching. Some wear their austerity and mineral flavors on their sleeve but then others, if you were to close your eyes, will transport you to a fruit orchard.

A Greenwich Village fixture since 1946. When we decided to move to bigger digs recently, we thought it was only fitting that we’d end up in a New York City Landmark, the De Vinne Press Building. A charming and formidable structure, it has stood on the corner of Fourth and Lafayette Streets in Manhattan since 1885. Its façade has been carefully maintained, leaving its charming period-specific features intact.

"Wine has enchanted poets for centuries, and for good reason: like poetry, good wine can be an emotional experience, lifting the spirit and delighting the senses as it satisfies the soul.
At Pindar Vineyards, our award-winning wines are quite literally dreams come true. It was the dream of our founder, Dr. Herodotus “Dan” Damianos, that helped create the winemaking industry on Long Island in the early 1980’s. And that dream has, over nearly 30 years, turned Pindar Vineyards into Long Island’s best-known wine producer. Today Pindar Vineyards encompasses more than 500 scenic acres. We grow 17 varieties of grapes, crafting them into some 23 varietals and proprietary blends. We produce 70,000 cases of wine a year, making us the largest vineyard on Long Island. But at heart we are still a family with a personal touch in every aspect of our business. |

Occasionally, the Manor House Cellar invites distinguished wineries to showcase their most specialized portfolio collections.

One basic concept behind the store and its rotating selection of wines and sakes is to make these pleasures accessible to novices and experienced collectors alike. Striving to provide a range of prices for the major and obscure varietals and across the world. As a fixture in the neighborhood for over eight years, the staff has been fortunate to become intimate with customers' tastes; such familiarity allows for unique suggestions for complex questions of food/wine pairings or simple ones like what to drink on a rainy Wednesday.

In almost every other part of the world where wine is produced people drink almost exclusively the local stuff. But not in New York. Also, New York wines are rarely as cheap as the local plonk the locals everywhere else drink on a daily basis. But the wines have gotten a little less expensive and they continue to improve, so Uva Wines has recently expanded the selection of New York wines.

"Whiskey Ed" Houdek first opened the doors to Ye Olde Spirit Shoppe in 1965. Back then he'd deliver mail for the Bayport Post Office during the day and at night he'd work selling fine liquors and wine. In 1972 Ed doubled the size of the store making it so long and narrow that you could fit four lanes of bowling within the store's walls. But instead of balls and pins, we have the area's largest selection of fine wines and liquors.

Not only comparing Italian Cabernet to other Italian Cabernets, or rate it only on it's own merits, Morrell Wine compares it to all Cabernets.

With wine’s growing popularity there are numerous shopping options for the consumer: stores on every other street corner, the internet, as well as the suburban wine and liquor emporia. SIP is a more personalized experience. No wine is selected because it’s inexpensive, famous, or given a high score. As a result, much of the selection is comprised of small family producers, many of whom use minimal impact farming techniques such as organic, sustainable & biodynamic agriculture.

If you're looking for great wines from around the world, check Grand Wine & Liquors. Great selections of ethnic wines. Shipping for a nominal amount just about anywhere.
