The Kentucky Derby is a Grade I stakes race for three-year-old thoroughbred horses, held annually in Louisville, Kentucky, on the first Saturday in May, capping the two-week-long Kentucky Derby Festival. The race is one and a quarter miles (2 km) at Churchill Downs. Colts and geldings carry 126 pounds and fillies 121 pounds. The race is known in the United States as "The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports" for its approximate duration, and is also called "The Run for the Roses" for the blanket of roses draped over the winner. It is the first leg of the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing in the US and typically draws around 155,000 fans. Source

In celebrating over one hundred years of tradition, the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Los Angeles presents the 2008 Golden Dragon Parade. With over 110,000 individuals lining the parade route and thousands viewing the telecast each year, this colorful celebration along North Broadway in Chinatown has become the premiere cultural event in the Southern California Asian-American Community.

DAC's mission is to engage a broad spectrum of society in the sensory and intellectual stimuli of emerging visual culture by providing visual artists and curators with the singular opportunity for both on and off-site experimentation, innovation, presentation and advancement.
Activities - DAC produces the annual Art Under the Bridge Festival, the largest urban forum for experimentation in public art by emerging artists in the United States. DAC presents a year-round exhibition program in its gallery, hosts an annual Artists' Opportunity Workshop and commissions editions, multiples and public space works.

Over the past nine decades, the PGA Championship has developed into one of the premier sporting events in the world. More than 100,000 people line the fairways of the nation's finest golf facilities during PGA Championship week to view the strongest, all-professional international field in major championship golf. As it was more than 80 years ago, the Wanamaker Trophy is still prized as one of the golf world's greatest treasures.

Many of the exciting Fleet Week activities that have become synonymous with the event are staged at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, while others are scheduled throughout the five boroughs of New York. In partnership with New York City, the United States Navy and the Intrepid Museum, over a dozen Navy and Coast Guard ships as well as ships from all over the world visit New York Harbor each Fleet Week. The visiting Fleet Week vessels are open for free public tours daily. There are also military demonstrations, athletic competitions and many other exciting activities over the course of the seven-day celebration. One highlight of the week’s activities is the Memorial Day ceremony held on the flight deck of the Intrepid. Veterans and active military personnel from all five branches of the armed services join in the museum’s tribute to the men and women who have made the supreme sacrifice for their country. The ceremony includes the playing of Taps, a ceremonial wreath laying, 21-gun salute, the unfurling of a 100 foot American flag and a fly-over of military aircraft in the missing man formation. Some other Fleet Week event favorites include the Parade of Ships, stem-to-stern relay race and tug-of-war crew competitions, live demonstrations of military skills, and the Best Chow Competition. Tastin' n Racin' is celebrating its 2nd decade of hot Hydroplane action! It's going to be a big splash this year, not only with increased activity on the water, but with great events and specials on the board walk, main stage, and family fun area!

Septermber/October. Just a couple hours drive from the glorious Rocky Mountains, Edmonton is known for its big sky and endless sunshine. Located east of Vancouver and west of Toronto, Edmonton is in the heart of the Canadian Prairies and our city is often called upon to be the set for independent and Hollywood movies. With a population of one million people, Edmonton is a city that loves movies. It's reported that the number one, per capita, movie rental city in Canada is Edmonton. Need we say more? Oh yes, and we have the world's largest shopping mall -- West Edmonton Mall.

September/October - This year we introduce a new event program at the VIFF. As part of our hospitality and networking initiatives, the festival is hosting a regular series of receptions at our spacious new Vancouver International Film Centre.

The Calgary International Film Festival Society was established in 1999 as a non-profit organization providing an annual world-class cinema event for the citizens of Calgary and area. We aim to showcase the best of national and international film to Calgary audiences. The Festival has brought numerous Canadian film premieres and world caliber filmmakers to our city. Your support is needed to continue bringing quality films to Calgary.
