Van Cleef & Arpels is a famous French jewelry house; its origins in 1896 lay in the hands of Alfred Van Cleef and his father-in-law, Salomon Arpels. They occupied their first shop in the Place Vendome at number 22, where their premises are still located.

The firm's pre-1920 jewelery is characterised by fluid lines, graceful curves, color, and a poetic sense of movement, evident of the Art Nouveau style.
For the coronation of Farah Pahlavi, the former empress of Iran, Van Cleef & Arpels received the order of designing and building a crown in 1967. The 4-pound pearl, ruby, diamond and emerald crown she received at her 1967 coronation took Pierre Arpels of Van Cleef & Arpels six months to make. Although she had to leave many of her jewels behind when she left with her husband in exile in the late 1979, her crown is still in the Iranian Crown Jewels, located in the Iranian Central Bank in Tehran.

Em 1970 José Carlos Guerreiro viaja o Brasil como modelo dos desfiles da Rhodia, em companhia de Rita Lee, Tim Maia, Jorge Benjor e Mila Moreira. Em 1972 abre seu primeiro ateliê, desenvolvendo trabalhos em couro e prata com seu amigo e sócio, o ator Luiz Gustavo, na época, interpretando em novela televisiva, o papel do “bom vivan” Beto Rockfeller, um recorde de audiência na ocasião. Depois de alguns anos distante de seu ateliê, Guerreiro volta a fazer sucesso com suas peças e em 2000, inaugura loja no Shopping Iguatemi, em São Paulo. Em 2003, sedimenta sua posição no mercado paulistano inaugurando loja no Espaço Daslu, vindo a seguir a loja em St. Tropez, balneário francês. Em 2004, mais três lojas são abertas por Guerreiro: Fórum Ipanema e Fashion Mall no Rio de Janeiro e Park Shopping – Brasília. Nos anos seguintes outra loja na França, desta vez, na capital Paris e logo a seguir a loja da Rua Oscar Freire. Entre seus clientes famosos podemos citar, David Beckham e Álvaro Garnero. Ara, Designer/CEO, was born in Liberia, Africa, where the beauty of the world struck him at an early age. Upon arrival in the United States in 1985, Ara turned to his artistic renderings and sought an outlet for his creative vision. Working from his loft in Soho, Ara began exhibiting his jewelry designs in 1992 at industry trade shows. Quickly finding enthusiastic buyers, Ara invested himself fully into building this business, eventually leading to the opening of his first NYC retail store on the edge of SOHO on Bleecker Street.
