A História do Brasil conhece dois Anhangueras (Que quer dizer "Diabo Velho" ou "Espírito Maligno"). O primeiro, Bartolomeu Bueno, foi um sertanista paulistano que em 1682 entrou em uma bandeira com destino aos sertões do Planalto Central acompanhado de Bartolomeu Bueno da Silva, seu filho caçula de doze anos. Foi justamente esse seu filho que em 1722(Quarenta anos mais tarde), partiu de São Paulo com a intenção de novamente se embrenhar pelos sertões que antes percorrera com seu pai. Durante três anos, essa nova expedição, sob o comando do segundo Anhangüera, andou pelos sertões à procura dos antigos sítios descobertos, os quais não foram encontrados, mas além de fundarem o núcleo chamado Barra (Que em 1727 foi transferido para as margens do rio Vermelho com o nome de Santana, depois Vila Bueno e por fim cidade de Goiás) Bartolomeu Bueno da Silva descobriu as águas termais.
