Located in the heart of Lower Manhattan, the financial capital of the world and New York’s fastest growing residential neighborhood, Claremont Preparatory School is the first independent ongoing school to open in Manhattan in the last 50 years, and the first nonsectarian K-8 school below Canal Street. Initially opening in 1971 as a one-room schoolhouse in the heart of Manhattan’s Greenwich Village, The Studio School has evolved as an independent, not-for-profit day school whose continuing challenge is to educate the minds and bodies of our students while allowing them to maintain their own spirit and character. Founded in 1984 by Brother Brian Carty, FSC, De La Salle Academy is a private, independent, non-sectarian middle school located in Manhattan. The school's student body includes youngsters from all five boroughs of New York City. De La Salle is the only private, independent school in New York City for academically talented, economically disadvantaged boys and girls in grades six through eight. Our admissions policy is needs-blind; each year we have to raise over 80% of the school's annual budget from sources other than tuition. N-12. Staten Island Academy is a coeducational college-preparatory day school educating students from age four through high school. The Academy was founded in 1884 and since that time it has stood as a beacon of educational excellence.
The school is the oldest private school on Staten Island and it is proud of its unique status as the only independent school in the borough. Our “home” is a beautiful 12-acre campus with outstanding facilities including a new fitness center, renovated library, athletics fields, state-of-the art technology, a gym, computer labs, science labs, tennis courts, and two outdoor swimming pools.

Em 1972, com as inovações introduzidas pela Lei 5692/71 na Educação Brasileira, foi implantada a reforma de ensino do 1º grau(hoje Ensino Fundamental) sob a direção do sobrinho de D. Marília, Reynaldo Mattoso Cavalcanti. Sob sua orientação a escola passou também por outras transformações.
No ano de 1976, implementou-se a criação do Mattosinho com a finalidade de atender aos alunos da educação infantil. A escola continuava a crescer até que em 1978 foi inaugurada a nova e atual sede, na rua José Bonifácio nº 39.
O Ensino Médio foi implantado em 1985, com a colaboração do Prof. Comte Bittencourt, que meses antes assumira a Direção Administrativa da escola. A partir daí, nossa escola passou a denominar-se Colégio Marília Mattoso.

Ética, democracia, respeito e solidariedade são os valores fundamentais em que se baseia o Estação do Aprender para orientar suas ações pedagógicas. Estas, por sua vez, são pautadas por um princípio a que somos fiéis: a formação integral.
O Estação do Aprender é um espaço onde as oportunidades de aprendizagem são múltiplas e em todas as áreas do conhecimento. Nossas atividades são planejadas a partir dos fundamentos teóricos de Paulo Freire, Celestin Freinet, Jean Piaget, Emília Ferreiro e Vygotsky.
É na escola, com seu papel revitalizado, que as crianças e os jovens devem construir as bases de seu futuro, de seus valores e de seus projetos e objetivos. É missão da escola formar cidadãos capazes de interagir com um mundo novo de tecnologia e velocidade que nasce todos os dias, e fazê-los participar conscientemente dessas transformações.

Lower School teachers have been thinking together about the goals we set for social studies, in particular the conceptual goals that underlie our projects, trips and written tasks. As much as in literacy or math, we design a program to reflect students’ developmental orientation. We meet them where they are, tapping into their interests and curiosity within the framework of their realm of understanding. For example, we know that the younger child learns through concrete, personal experience – a trip or interview is a springboard for extended learning as your child reflects, questions, draws and writes about an exciting experience, turning it into new and deeper understanding. As the student matures and her worldview broadens, she extracts more and more information from books and symbolic communication, linking this to direct, interactive experience. Eventually, around Third Grade, students are ready to leave what we call the ”here and now” and enter the world of “long ago and far away;” to study those things that cannot be visited directly, tasted or touched. Thanks to the experiential foundation of their earlier years, eight and nine year olds are prepared to appreciate the flow and evolution of history and to conceptualize a timeline leading from then to now.
